dogfan (7/9/2014) Since football doesn't offer scholarships, Drake
actually is in violation of title IX in the opposite direction. Too many women on scholarship relative to men. That is the way I THINK it should be, but it isn't. Football Counts against Men's numbers. Another wierd calculation: For example: if a male student "Walks On" to the Drake Golf team, pays his own way, practices, and never plays in a tournament, that "walk-on" still gets counted against Title IX Calc's. Another poster mentioned something like: "due to the popularity of lacrosse, it could essentially pay for itself through increased enrollment" (or something similar to that) AGAIN: I agree, but if that were how Old Main did calculations our football program would (and I believe is) a Money Maker for the University. Football brings in 90-100 Men, many/most who would NOT otherwise come to Drake. Those families PAY over $1,000,000 (after all aid) to the University annually. (more men on campus tend to help attract more women ;) ) That $1,000,000 does NOT get credited to Football/Athletics. RESULT: Football "loses" money. Far less than $1,000,000 per year. Perhaps the Title IX law should be "tweaked" but I doubt it will happen. Thank You!!
