TennisDog2013 (12/11/2013)Bright side of life: It gives us more time to renovate the field house and stuff to make it a better indoor track place. Right?... right? Hey, that's one way to look at it. I think there is still a hope (although probably fading a bit) for the 2020 Trials (and maybe the 2017 or 2019 Outdoors in advance of that). At least there isn't any urgency. I can't imagine that decision makers in the sport want it permanently in Eugene. Yes, Eugene supports it. No, we haven't. But at least there is something of an existing infrastructure/history in Des Moines. And I don't think you want to commit to one city (and not really that accessible of one) for growing the sport. No real urgency to do anything for a couple of years now. With the practice facility under way, maybe we can take the time to get fundraising for a Fieldhouse expansion (which would benefit all student-athletes, the university, etc.), maybe start in 2016 and have something done in 2017. Meanwhile, hopefully Hy-Vee is pleased with what their committment to the Relays has produced and that event can continue to grow.
