Valpo is picked toward the bottom of the MVC. They were a bottom-feeder last year as well, but they completely outplayed Drake in the 2 games last season, the Bulldogs were lucky to win the first one.
The 'dogs have to come out with some fire in their belly.....can't afford to fall behind by 10+ in the first half again. DU needs to impose their will on Valpo.

Multiple large bigs with different games on this Valpo squad. Really interested to see how we defend it.

Valpo always seems to play us tough. We can’t start slow like we have pretty much every game this season

Hammie, let's go MAN! Didn't Valpo replace half their squad with Big 10 transfers?

Drake knows firsthand that a BIG10 transfer doesn’t necessarily make a team better. Valpo enter the game with a 3-4 record. Opening losses to two bad teams, Toledo and Ill Chicago at home, they defeated a solid Jacksonville St team who were 60-57 losers to Wichita State, a four point win over a bad Tulane team, and Trinity Christian. For Valpo and Head Coach Matt Lottich (New Trier/Stanford), it was just another off season of guys leaving, including 6’7 Donavan Clay, who bolted for Springfield, MO. and THE UNIVERSITY of Missouri State. It’s early, but with an Offense Efficiency at 253 and defense hanging around 200, team ranks 355th in offensive rebounds. One big reason is the ankle injury to Ben Krikke. He re-injured it in the opening scrimmage, played in a few games, but has missed the last three games. Thomas Kithier, 6’8, 235, Sr., transferred from Michigan State. He was getting minutes with the Spartans the first half of last season but was mostly sitting by the second half. He can finish from two shooting 70%, 0-4 from three, and 70% from the line. Sheldon Edwards, a 6’4 Sophomore, 180, will be on the floor 70% of the time. Unfortunately for Valpo the guy puts it up from three often. Last year Edwards shot 31% from three. This year, 14-48 for 29%. 6’3 Sr Trevor Anderson will be seen playing the SF, SG and even PG. Shooting- just 28% from three, he’s the last guy to foul as he’s shooting 90% from the line. Eron Gordon is at the point to start. You’ll see him running the show for half of the game. The rest of the time the ball will be in the hands of 6’0 Freshman Darius DeAveiro.

Krikke may have missed the FIRST three losses, but has played the last four games where they are 3-1. Not sure why you would say 5-1 Toledo is a bad team. Krikke is averaging 17 ppg. Bulldogs may be able to pull this out, but I view it as a tossup.

As far as Toledo, I watched them once, wasn't impressed. They are 5-1 against bad teams. Kenpom has them at 124, but that's based on last year. Hey, they're winning.

Hey Valparaiso Beacons!!! May you marry a wench that blows wind like a stone from a sling, and smells of DUB's rotted seed!!!
DEAR DARKLORDS FROM BEYOND!!!! Upon the heads of these miscreants, the Valparaiso Beacons, I call all powers! I call upon the gnomes, and the little people to scratch their bodies and disturb their sleep. I call upon the elf-smiths to lay an iron ring around their chests giving little room for their spirit little room for breath to speak of evil. I call upon the ''rimthurses'' (frost-giants) from the depth of Niflheim That the Beacons may freeze to their death before they get a chance to freeze others out. I call Surt and his ''fire-thurses'' That the Beacons may burn to their death before others may burn by their hands. I call upon Loki That he may twist their vision so that they strike each other down before they strike the Drake Bulldogs down. I call upon Freya So that these Beacon young men never may share a woman's bed and never have sons or daughters of their own as long as they want to hinder the mighty Drake Bulldogs to do just that. And I call upon Frey That these Valparasio Beacons have their manhood gelded, never being able to create anything good for themselves, never getting peace or harvest, as long as they want to hinder others to do just that. I call upon Thor that he may protect us from demonic evil and I call upon his wrath against the miscreants. With the will of the powers beyond, so mote it be.

From Valpo's press release - "Series Notes: The most recent matchup between these two teams was a memorable one as Valpo upset No. 25 Drake 74-57 on Feb. 7, 2021 at the Athletics-Recreation Center, handing the Bulldogs their first loss of the season. At the time, Drake was one of just three undefeated teams in the nation, joining Baylor and Gonzaga. That victory, the fifth in program history against a ranked opponent and the second during the Matt Lottich Era, came a day after giving the Bulldogs a scare in an 80-77 setback. Due to last year’s unique scheduling format during the COVID-19 pandemic, this will represent Valpo’s first trip to Des Moines since Feb. 19, 2020, a game that saw the guests rally from 19 down to force overtime in an eventual 77-75 setback. Valpo is 8-6 in the all-time series. The two teams have split the eight meetings since Valpo joined the Missouri Valley Conference prior to the 2017-18 campaign."
IMO, this is a statement game for DRock and Co.

This is going to be a bad matchup inside for Drake. 2 headed big men monster. Interested to see if we can control the paint on D.
I don't doubt our guard play is better, if we show up. Will Drake have learned some hard lessons from an ice cold trip to the land of sunshine, or will they continue the same tired, unworkable formula?
