A competent AD and President makes such a difference. Excellent outlook for the future of the basketball program, and the university as a whole; if similar applications occur as when the 2008 team had their run in the national spotlight.

Now someone here do some sleuthing to find out what his yearly salary is. Hopefully that got a nice bump as well!
When was the last time Drake extended a coach?

I believe Phelps got a 2 year extension. But none of us were excited. This is very different.

Very different. We’ve really only had a chance to do this right twice. We screwed up with Maury John, and then we know what happened with Sandy and Keno. That one actually might have worked out for us. Who knows. We finally did it right. We also had a coach who has some integrity, which obviously helps!

When I first saw the title and who posted this, I figured DUB skimmed DT's meds and then swiped his fishing pole. This is excellent news! Well done by all parties involved.

Great news! I wasn't too worried about any other current job opening but nice to have taken care of now.

KCCI story... Bulldogs coach Darian DeVries agrees to 8-year contract extensionI may actually believe the old "building a winning legacy" slogan now. 😁

+xNow someone here do some sleuthing to find out what his yearly salary is. Hopefully that got a nice bump as well! When was the last time Drake extended a coach? The Des Moines Register reported his original base contract was estimated to be $500,000 a year. That would have made him the 5th highest paid coach in the Valley behind Porter Moser ($1,096,244), Ben Jacobson (900,000), and Brian Wardle ($681,886), and Dan Muller ($564,000). I'm guessing we are towards the upper end now. Bonuses can play into it, too. Most contracts have bonuses for postseason appearances, academic performance, etc. Southern Illinois gives a $5,000 bonus for every home sellout. Missouri State gives a $10,000 bonus for each year average home attendance is over 8,000. Who knows what types of bonuses Drake puts in their contracts.

I'm also curious what sort of raises he got for his assistants. Would be great to keep the whole crew together another year or two, or at least have the $$ to hire a quality replacement.

After decades and decades of hearing nothing but negative talk about the administration and the athletic department, and all the roadblocks put in place to prevent the basketball program from competing on an annual basis, it is absolutely awesome to see Marty Martin and Brian Hardin take care of business.
