NCAA has officially approved a start date of November 25. Recommended: a minimum of 4 non-conference games. Would be nice to see Iowa/Iowa State, Creighton, maybe one or both of the South Dakota schools as the non-conference season but we shall see. Committee will meet again in mid-October to discuss among other items NCAA Tournament format. Expansion beyond 64 teams "extremely unlikely" and no plans are being made around more than 64 teams. "In addition to the start date, the NCAA council voted to halt recruiting visits through the calendar year, ban interprogram scrimmages and exhibitions and allow for 12-hour practice weeks for teams starting Sept. 21. Teams can begin practicing in full on Oct. 14 The maximum number of allowed games has been decreased from 31 to 27, while the minimum number of games will be 13." Looks like the NCAA approved an additional year of eligibility for athletes involved in winter sports 2020-2021. Will Drake agree to the additional year with the women potentially having 17 or 18 scholarship players next season (if they all stay which is unlikely). It seems that Coach JB likes to stay under the 15 scholarship limit normally, so it could make for some tough decisions. I am resigned to the fact that seating is going to be limited, so I hope all of the games will be streamed. Looking forward to see who steps up to fill the big shoes of last year's seniors.

Just because there's an extra year of eligibility doesn't mean they'll necessarily take it. Monica for example I believe will finish her MBA this year so unless there's something else she can fit in during the course of one year she might not academically be able to work in staying. The other three seniors are all undergraduates; they could in theory use the extra year of scholarship to work in a masters program and then pay out of pocket for the last year but they may not want to/be able to.

For football they aren't increasing the scholarship limit so you'd have to have the program support bringing a player back. Teams aren't necessarily running players out, but at the same time I don't think it's a given that you want to use your last scholarship on an extra senior year for any given player. For players, it's a lost year of earnings.
Non-revenue sports, but they did it for spring and some schools (I remember Wisconsin for sure) basically said they aren't renewing scholarships for anyone for an extra year.
So it will have an impact, but I am guessing it winds up being a fairly minor one in all sports.

It's official: No fans at the Knapp Center at least for the start of the season. A limited number of athlete family members will be allowed to attend. Otherwise, all home games will be on ESPN+ at minimum.

We finally have the full non-conference schedule:
11/25 @ Creighton 11/28 @ Green Bay 12/02 vs. Iowa 12/06 @ Minnesota 12/10 vs. Northwest Missouri 12/15 @ South Dakota State 12/22 @ Iowa State
With the exception of D2 Northwest Missouri, every opponent has a history of recent NCAA Tournament appearances.

http://mvc-sports.com/news/2020/11/20/mens-basketball-actions-from-mvc-presidents-council-november-20.aspxConference schedule changing completely. Short version is there will still be the 18-game schedule but games against the same team will be played on back-to-back days at the same site. Several other mid-major conferences have adopted this model.

Did Minnesota lose a bunch of players? They weren’t good but weren’t that bad last year, wouldn’t expect D up by 40.

+xDid Minnesota lose a bunch of players? They weren’t good but weren’t that bad last year, wouldn’t expect D up by 40. The telecast on BTN+ indicated they were down at least one of their best players today. They also only went 5-13 in Big Ten play last year and from what I gathered expectations aren't the highest for them in the Big Ten this year.

Here are current women's NET rankings for all MVC Conference Members:
23 Missouri State 49 Drake 69 Illinois State 70 UNI 89 Bradley 123 Valparaiso 144 Loyola 179 Southern Illinois 266 Indiana State 311 Evansville
The goal for post-season tournaments is to rack up as many quad 1 wins as possible. A quad 1 win is Top 30 at home, Top 50 neutral, Top 75 road. Right now UNI at 70 is our best win, although it came at home.
At 49 if we were a major conference we would be considered an NCAA lock. Mid-major luck though, we'll need to at least make it to Sunday of Hoops in the Heartland and get lots of help. It's not impossible but unlikely.

Mid-major get screwed every year as far as the NCAA selection and then in the seedings if you do get in. Think UNI was our most impressive win of year especially given the way we did it. As Coach said on pre-game show you want wins but the games against Mo. State may mark a turning point especially the heart and fire and grit we showed despite our injuries. Feeling better about this team. Over a week off before the next game is welcome and should help provide some time for resting and healing. Kind of a logjam in the conference standings but we are setting pretty good.
Just watched Arkansas and Connecticut play in a great game which Arkansas won. Chelsea Dungee for Arkansas scored 37 points. She and Brice Calip of Mo. State were high school teammates coached by Calip's mom. Two of the best Native-American players in the country for sure.

Come-from-behind win tonight. SIU always seems to be a bigger challenge than we think it will be and tonight was no exception. I expect another close one tomorrow.
