My friend & I have launched a new podcast called View of the Valleys. It will discuss men's basketball in both the Missouri Valley & Ohio Valley conferences. We have already recorded & released two episodes. Episode 1 is an introductory podcast giving a rundown of what to expect from the podcast. In episode 2, we discuss the expansion of P5 conference schedules, MVC/OVC transfers, & our Mt. Rushmore for Austin Peay & Bradley. In our next episode we will unveil our Drake Mt. Rushmore. We would greatly appreciate a listen if you're so inclined and let us know what you think. You can also follow us on Twitter @Viewvalleyspod I am including the show links for Google & Apple podcasts.

Just listened, mostly wanted to hear what the Drake Mt. Rushmore picks would be. DN folks, who would be on your Drake Mt. Rushmore?

Without a ton of thought I would have to say Dolph, Lewis Lloyd, JY, Reed Timmer.
I would certainly understand if folks want to go Pulliam, Wise, McCarter, and Lloyd, however.

Dolph was probably only the 3rd best player on the 69 team.
I'd go with McCarter, Wise, Lloyd, Red Murrell
I guess the question I'd have would be, is this based on what they did while at Drake or their basketball accomplishments as a pro?
If it's based on pro career, I'd probably go Netolicky, Wise, Lloyd and McCoy McLemore

First of all, thanks for listening we really appreciate it and love the discussion about Mt. Rushmore.
The original four I had were Lloyd, McCarter, Timmer & Emmencker. I felt okay leaving off Timmer because he had so many more games to be a top scorer in school history compared to Murrell. Dolph was certainly one I gave strong consideration to, especially since he is in the MVC HoF. There was probably a little recency bias for Emmenecker given that he was such a bright spot for the 07-08 team.
As to the question about is it college only or is pro career considered as well...I took overall basketball impact into account. There are a couple of players on future Mt. Rushmores that aren't on the careers stats leaders at their school, but it's hard to think of their program without thinking of them.

That’s true. I also thought about does it only have to be four-year players? (I disagree, just a thought) Which would eliminate Lewis Lloyd. And one of the Willie’s as well, I forget which one. But I think the pro career for Lloyd is important.
Dolph definitely gets a lot of pull from his post-basketball Drake impact.

Willie McCarter - Final Four. Lakers Willie Wise - Final Four. Nuggets and Supersonics Lewis Lloyd - Rockets Curt Smith - Kevin Durant called him the best basketball player ever to come out of DC. Won MVC player of the year. Won MVC Newcomer of the year. Averaged 21 points a game. Dolph Pulliam - Final Four. Drafted by the cowboys and celtics.
Other Candidates Emmenecker or JY - 28/5. Top 25 Ranking. Return to the tournament. AE won POY. Josh was the leading scorer. I loved Timmer but he scored a bunch of points playing every minute on some horrifically bad Drake teams. Never won NOY, POY, FOY.
* I've edited to include Dolph.

For me, no way would Timmer or Emmenecker be up there. Timmer for reasons you mentioned. Emmenecker was a complete non-entity for 3 of his 4 years and I honestly think he was only Drake 4th best player the year he won POY (Young, Cox, Houston). He was a really cool story, but I don't think he should have been POY that season. If Curt Smith played more than one season, he would definitely deserve to be up there.

The 5 Lewis Lloyd Dolph Pulliam Willie McCarter Willie Wise 4 way tie - Adam Emmenecker He understood what a point guard was supposed to do, which is rare. Josh Young - Helped the Bulldogs through some tough times with 2-3 players hanging on him on defense. Reed Timmer - like Josh Young was consistent and a smart player and took it to the next level. Jeff Haliburton - Just when Bulldog fan's thought tournaments would be hard to come by, Jaff Haliburton made it happen.

Three best players of all time are clearly Lloyd, McCarter and Willie Wise. Bob Netolicky had a nice career and a really good career in the ABA. Wayne Kreklow I would say would be up there. Also agree with Halliburton. Damn good player on a very good team as well.

I think Kenny Harris is a bit of an underrated player as well. 2 time all MVC. Also, we all think of Lee Lloyd but Pop Wright played a very key 2 role for 2 years with him. Could shoot the lights out from deep.
