It was less than a week ago when Drake was destroyed by UNi in Des Moines. What will it take to play with the Panthers? Well, all we have to do is go back to March 8th, game one in Cedar Falls. Drake was in it until the last minute at the McLeod Center. If you remember, Green and company had to hit some pretty, pretty, difficult shots to win. Game one, Northern shot a just .455% from two, but hit a blistering 58% from three. The Panthers went to the line 26 times and turned the ball over just nine times. Drake shot .556 from two and 41% from three. Drake only got to the line nine times and made just six. The most impressive stat, Drake had just six turnovers. A couple individual numbers of interest. While Wilkens shot just 1-5 from two, he hit 4-8 from three and finished with 16 points. Robbins 17, Murphy 15 (4-6 from two/2-4 from three), Jackson took just four shots for six points and Sturtz took just one shot for two points. UNi’s Green was en fuego. He had 34 points, going 6-9 from three and 6-12 from two. Berhow had 18, with seven coming from the line. Interestingly, in game two, it wasn’t the Panthers shooting from three that beat Drake last week. It was that the 'Dogs just didn’t show up. First, UNi out rebounded 'Dogs by 12. UNi shot a respectable 52% from two, but just 35% from three and went to the line just nine times …making only four. Those aren’t numbers that should give any team a 27-point victory on the road. Now, UNi doesn’t turn the ball over too often. However, Drake’s defense forced just a pathetic four turnovers. Panthers drove through the lane as if they were invited by a Drake bullfighter waving their capes, expecting Liam to back them up. Robbins stopped the guy driving, but only to leave his man wide open next to the basket. Play that kind of defense and shoot 3-21 for 14% from three and 40% from two, at home, and you get a loss of 70-43. Come 'Dogs, let's get thsat upset! Shoot 40%, or better, from three; 50%, or better, from two; play another game with that aggressive defense displayed against the Redbirds; make your free throws, keep the turnovers down; have fun and win!
KENPOM has UNi -11

Bulldogs played them close once before. Illinois State beat them. If the team shares the ball intelligently and keeps pushing the defense and tempo. No reason why the team can't make a noble attempt.

Drake hasn't defeated a non-Illinois State team in Arch Madness since beating Bradley in 2013 (Phelps's last win).
Drake hasn't defeated a non-Illinois school in Arch Madness since beating Creighton in the 2008 semifinals.
(Other wins since then: 2020 Illinois State, 2019 Illinois State, 2013 Bradley, 2012 Bradley, 2010 SIU, 2008 Illinois State).
2008 is the only time Drake has won mutliple games at the MVC tournament. It looks like Drake hasn't won a quarterfinal as the lower seed since winning a #4/5 game in 1989. (To be fair, they have only made the semifinals a handful of times. It's a sad history.)

Other than your points we have a pretty dang good chance! Ten years ago I can remember being up about 12 on UNI in a Friday game. My wife was going to fly to St. Louis if we won. Drake built a 12 point lead on great shooting but then hit a 21 minute scoring drought. UNI came back and won.

Sometimes a team has to lose games, including the last three, only to learn how to finish. What a confidence builder it would be if Drake defeated all the teams that beat them a week ago. This team is best when they get in the paint and to the free throw line. Play hard, play with confidence, play smart and have fun!

Here’s a song for Garrett Sturtz and the s Bulldogs: “Let it go!”. Let those three pointers fly! Don’t think about it first!
Here we go Bulldogs, here we go…

Last night in the Mountain West Tournament, Wyoming became the first 11 seed to advance to the semifinal round (defeating Niko & CSU Wednesday night & upsetting Nevada last night). It can be done!

+xHere’s a song for Garrett Sturtz and the s Bulldogs:“Let it go!”. Let those three pointers fly! Don’t think about it first! Not just Sturtz, but the entire team. I'm not sure why, but last week against UNi, Drake looked like nobody had the confidence to shoot. Yesterday, guys got better looks when Murphy and Sturtz took it to the hoop. As posted before, it was nice to see Jackson leave the corner. CONFIDENCE!!

Yup, way too tentative against UNI last week. We got sucked into UNI’s slowdown showdown. Let’s show them Bulldog basketball this time around. We have nothing to lose- the pressure is on #1 UNI! Have fun!
Let it go Bulldogs, let it go....!

My biggest takeaway from last weeks games vs uni was that Phyfe really surprised me- definitively have to concentrate on keeping him off offensive boards

Haven't done it at all this year, but here goes........you've heard it for 10+ years : Defense and free throws win games. The team that controls the boards controls the game. Passing is the most important art of the game.

Oh, yeah....make your shots, too!

Love the tempo through the first two media time outs. Don't play to UNI's slow pace!
