8 PM tip on Tuesday night, game is on CBS Sports Network. Last year's co-champions face off, Loyola is two-time defenders. Loyola is the only 2–0 MVC team.
Loyola has won five straight against Drake including two straight at Knapp. Last year was the game where Drake raced off to a big lead by hitting their first 10 shots (I believe) before cooling off and fading. Two years ago was the first-place showdown that was tied with less than 10 minutes left and still wound up in a 23-point loss. Krutwig is the only real star left from their Final Four team.
Krutwig v. Robbins should be a good matchup.
I think Drake is probably finishing in the middle of the pack, but if they're going to make a run at the top this is a big one. UNI is probably still the favorite, but Loyola is definitely in the mix

Krutwig has a lot of moves around the hoop. It's going to be key for Liam to avoid biting on shot fakes and getting into foul trouble. On the other end of the court, Krutwig is wide but not overly tall or athletic. If Liam can get post position he should be able to get decent looks at the hoop.

Lime, it should be a good matchup between the two, especially if Liam keeps with the basics on both ends of the court. Knappdog, I agree, Krutwig is tricky good with his body going one way and going the other under the defenders body. Liam must stay on the ground and not draw the "underclassman foul." I loved watching Coach on the sideline with his hands straight up to remind Robbins not to use his hands. Yes, Liam is so much taller than Krutwig. He must STAY DOWN, as his presents is enough to alter even Krutwig. Porter will play Krutwig the 80+% of the game.
Loyola does not shoot from three too often. Last game, just 10 times. Drake has shot the three 335 times. Loyola has shot the three 219. KENPOM has Loyola shooting 33.8% from three (134th) and Drake 37.0% and ranked 39th. ESPN stats are very different. Drake is ranked 142nd from 2pt and Loyola 10th. However, they are incredibly effective from the two, and are solid, like always, on the defensive end. They will probably start four juniors and one sophomore. As a matter of fact, they don't have a senior on the team.
Loyola has plenty of talent, but clearly has some issues: OFFENSIVE REBOUND %: ranked 349th FREE THROW %: ranked 227th DEFENDING THE 3pt SHOT: 295th TURNOVER %: ranked 224th EFFECTIVE FG% DEFENSE: ranked 230th
Strengths: Ranked 25th-80th in every defensive category, but against the three and blocks. EFFECTIVE FG %: 19th 2pt %: 10th FTA/FGA: 6th
Stay with what works! Get the ball in to Liam, inside and out. Krutwig is big, but not tall. Got to have movement away from Liam when he has the ball. Drake can't help an already good Rambler defense. 'Dogs must stay away from unforced errors/turnovers and offensive fouls. I know, broken record, HIT THE FREE THROWS and KEEP THEM OFF THE LINE!! KEEP TURNOVERS TO 13, or fewer, Drake will be in it even on a chilly shooting night. It's a home game, bring the confidence, move the ball and finish with 15 plus assists... as they hit the open three point shots.

Loyola shoots 35% on 3s. In the two games against Drake last year they shot nearly 60%. I don't think our defense was that bad, so they clearly played out of their heads. there is no reason the bulldogs can't win this game. hopefully Ernst is up to playing some minutes again.

Ernst better step up like he did last game. The key for drake to win this game is to stop krutwig from scoring inside. Drake 3 threes must go in. Liam staying out of foul trouble. Limiting turnovers and getting crucial rebounds. Liam vs krutwig is gonna be a interesting matchup in the center position. If Liam can play like he did against Indiana state then will win this game. The matchup between loyola and drake is that loyola has won both away and at home against drake.

I'm almost for starting Antonio or Brady and then put Liam after blood is drawn. ;-) Krutwig is a hellva player, just limit the sumbatch is the game plan there .. as much as possible anyway, He is going to make millions in the NBA, Drake will be lucky to stay in the game. Dogs don't have a chance against a super athlete like Krutwig.

Loyola -84 Actually, 'Dogs at home vs. Ramblers, the spread will probably be Drake -1. Too bad most of the students aren't on campus. Let's hope Drake can get over 4,000 fans in the seats.

Given the late start and high school basketball games I think we'll be lucky to get 3,000. Tuesday is historically the worst night of the week for a Drake game attendance wise.

I apologize, you all post about Tuesday night high school games. I forgot, students don't study in Iowa on Tuesday evenings. In the Chicago North Suburban Conferences, with exception of maybe one game, Friday night was a conference game and Saturday night was mostly non-conference. Typically, the only games during the week were tournament games. I'll yell louder at my television. Hopefully "THE University of Drake" Los Angeles Bureau will be heard from almost 2,000 miles away. Looking forward to a Sturtz double-double. Forced offensive fouls ---- Rebounds!

71-66 Dogs. Can’t afford any home losses if we want to contend. And damn I wish Des Moines cared just a little bit about Drake b-ball. Attendance sucks this year. And I don’t want to hear about Tuesday night high school games.

Creighton was real good for 5 or 6 years before their attendance ever picked up. Iowa State fans all want their coach fired, so maybe some of them will not want to drive 45 minutes plus 15 minutes to park and come see the Bulldogs.

I would say only about 1/2 students are back as it is J term but my son is trying to rally the troops for a good turn out. Look for the red head under the basket in students section :) I feel good about tonight.

Hope for the upperclassmen who are done with being at home to show up. Also, Iowa-Nebraska tonight sure to put another damper. ESPN metrics gives Loyola a 52.5% chance of winning. In more optimistic news, Drake is listed as a 1 point favorite.
