What is up with the (lack of) offense this season?
Bulldogs were the highest scoring team in the MVC last season. This year, it's like watching Kanaskie-ball. Just no flow whatsoever to the offense right now.

I think part of it is We don’t have as strong of an inside game without McGlynn, which allows teams to close out on the perimeter. We don’t have any inside out flow for stretches of games.
We don’t have an Ellingson threat, so there aren’t as many gaps in perimeter D. Also we’re still really undersized.

Liam definitely needs to continue to develop on finishing plays. That's the thing I notice the most. I feel like a guy like him shouldn't have a sub-50% FG%.

since mcglynn graduated we don’t have a shot blocker and rim detector inside. When norton and Ellingson left our three point shooting went down. Ernst needs to be more productive if he wants to have more playing time, but right now he’s pretty much doing nothing and playing three minutes on the court, thus Liam can’t do all inside presence by himself. Ernst needs to step up his game if Liam is having a bad game. Jackson can’t be relying on his threes he’s needs to play defense. pilipovic Needs to be more consistent outside and play more defense instead of relying on his three’s.

Guys are still learning to play together and now Tre is back so that adds another component that wasn't there til last week. So it's a bumpy road at the moment. DD will get it figured out. Tonight is another win so we have only lost two do far. Defense is carrying us at the moment so I'm not so concerned about the offense- it will come together. Defense wins championships.
Here we go Bulldogs, here we go…

I'm sure Brady would like to contribute more each game. However, after coming off of summer knee and back surgery, he is still playing with a torn meniscus. It was play this year, or never again. I delayed my meniscus surgery for a year before the pain kept me up all night, every night. Don't know if his is basic, complex or displaced tear, but it can hurt at times like a mother. I thank him for his effort and for any minutes he can give this team.

I don't know how much Ernst will eventually contribute, but I'd be surprised if coach isn't intentionally using him sparingly in non-con. We are in the MVC, only conference play truly matters and coach knows that.

I don't think the impact of missing Ellingson can be overstated. He had far more impact than just his own stats.

Agreed. Hopefully, much like Ellingson last year, Jackson can start to get hot and turn into something resembling that as the season goes on.

In addition to being a great shooter, Ellingson was a really good defender. We already know Jackson can shoot. I think Devries is looking for the other half of that equation from him now.

Not only could Ellingson shoot, I think what was underappreciated was how he could punish the defense for over committing. He was fantastic at understanding the angles and getting in for a mid range or layup if they stepped out too far.

Going to have to see Jackson and Noah into the rotation more. Bulldogs have played better, had better offensive movement, so it can and will be done. Practice shooting free throws.

Joseph is starting to come around too. I thought he was a big dynamite blast of energy last night.
I'm watching these shots and am a bit perplexed at how the shooting form is so discombobulated. Watching all of them ... sometimes they are not squared up to take the shot ... like their shooting shoulder is almost pointing at the basket, like they are aiming instead of just shooting. I agree with OldDog, DRock & Co. will get offensive ship on the straight and narrow and hopefully sooner than later. I think a lot the polishing up offensively is just simple fundamental stuff.
Randy Heimerman .... IN THE HOUSE!

The reassuring thing is, a lot of these games we would have lost in years past, at least we're hanging in there. Still agree we need to tighten up quick.

This seems to be happening through out basketball in general.

Agreed on Yesufu. He may not have been in the mix in the end of the game but he really was the bridge that helped us stay in it. He was dropping those tear drop floaters all over. Looked really good.

The good thing is that the ‘dogs are still winning most games despite the problems on offense.
I know the offense will click eventually, and this team will be hard to beat.
Seems like they’re not pushing the pace like they did last season. Not sure if that’s by design or if opponents are focused on not letting the Bulldogs get out in transition.
Gotta figure out a way to get the twins more involved in the half-court offense.

Also I've been really impressed with our defense a few times, last night was one of them. If we can keep playing defense like this it's going to really help us out come MVC time.
