In the preseason, JU looked promising. The backup QB at Army had just transferred in...and he's really good. I checked out the videos of him running and/or passing for touchdowns against San Jose St., Miami U, and Houston (Armed Forces Bowl). He has been the subject of much discussion on another message board. Per the rules on that board, I'm obligated to drink a shot if I specifically name him... ...but he may be the best running QB ever to play in the Pioneer Football League. Except he hasn't played. He's not even on the depth chart. It's kind of like Drake changing the venue of the SD State game. The school never felt the need to explain. So instead of Army guy at QB and Calvin Turner Jr. at cornerback - where he was All-PFL as a freshman - JU has a squad remarkably similar to last year's. Bad defense and a quarterback who doesn't look like a quarterback. In the final seconds of Saturday's Stetson game, Turner was running around in the backfield...trying to make a Deion Sanders highlight reel play...but ultimately taking a sack at the 36-yard line...which took JU out of range for a field goal that would have sent the game into overtime. A quarterback would have thrown the ball away, but Turner is not a quarterback. So I'm not expecting JU's first win at Drake this week. If JU's coach is still around in 2021, the Dolphins will still be running the triple option, and you might see Army guy playing as a Senior. Maybe.
