Nick would no doubt bring in a recruiter or two with experience.
He can coach.
He is from Iowa.
Played in Iowa.
He is a big time promoter.
Loves being in public.
Already has a relationship with the media.
Hoiberg was smart enough to bring in TJ. Nick would do the same.
It would be a positive to have someone that everyone knows.
Even Drake kids would be attracted to the NBA tie!
Very Intriquing!

I too find him interesting. If he gets picked... I can dig it. If he doesn't... oh well.
Great addition on my part there, huh?

He's really the only candidate that sticks out to me. Unique. All the other candidates seem to be lifetime assistant coaches. Nurse has proven himself.

Do you think he has a bunch of contacts in Europe after coaching there for so many years? Bring in good foreign players. Pull a St. Mary's.
Heck, the top 6 players on the Drake men's tennis team (aka the singles and doubles lineup) are international students. DO IT FOR BASKETBALL! (Two very very different sports and situations but... y'know... whatever)

Great idea, if it works for the tennis team, it's gotta work for the Bball team! Let's just not get any recruiting violations like St. Mary's :D

He has made a career of avoiding college jobs. Not sure how we got fixated on him, but he has zero chance of becoming Drake's next head coach.

A few days (weeks?) later, McDermott bolted for Creighton. I know people who know Nurse....he's interested in the job.

Very little college experience. Here's his wikipedia page

The guy has a lot of fire. He's a technical machine. Actually got two yesterday and was thrown out.
And yes I think that's a good thing.

Nurse seems like a high-risk, high-reward choice. He should have a lot of pro contacts, especially in Europe. Maybe that would appeal to recruits who want to play somewhere professionally.

Royce White is now playing for Nick Nurse. Team is 25-15 this year and averages 110 points per game. Looks like they are currently number 2 seed.

Nick Nurse might be a great candidate but I'm a bit amazed at how on one hand there is a strong trend in the forum towards idea that the new coach should have D-1 head coaching experience or at least to be an experienced D-1 assistentand. Yet, on the other hand, we have people recommending candidates with minimal college D-1 collegeexperience. There is a huge difference in coaching in the D leagues and the college game. For example recruiting/recruiting contacts, the ability to work with supportively with kids just out of high scool, the ability to deal with and work the academic side of institutions (particularly an issue at DU) and, not the least, comprehensive experience/knowledge of complex NCAA regulations I can understand that Nurse may be a dynamic and engaging personality but but so was Tom Abatemarco (I'm not suggesting that Nurse is anyways similar in character) but there are other qualifications that don't necessarily have to do with charisma. That he may be a quailfied )or even a quality condidate) I accept but the University needs to look at the entire package.
