OFF POY--Ja'Seem Reed--San Diego
DEF POY--Eric Haney--San Diego
SP TEAMS POY--Sam Johnson--Valpo
Coach--Todd Stepsis--Drake
FR OFF POY--Colin Hurst--Presbyterian
FR DEF POY--James Kratochvil--Marist

A lot of Hateraid is being consumed with a few of these...my ballot would have looked a lot different...

Reed had a great year and is a 1st team All-Conference player...but he's not the POY. Both Luke Bailey and Hope Adebayo (ST THOMAS) deserved it more than him. Reed running out of bounds at Drake late in the game to allow Drake to keep a time-out, was perhaps the biggest play in the PFL season. It might have cost SD the title.

Haney is a great corner, more-than-worthy 1st Teamer, but not POY. Teams did not game plan to limit him or keep him in check. Claypool and Gideon Lampron (LB from Dayton) were far more worthy. NOBODY got more attention with scheming than Claypool and he still led the league in sacks.

Sam Johnson is a big-time punter...was at Alabama (he has a natty ring) and Jackson St. before Valpo. Great year. But how many games did he win? Dunning was the easy choice here, as his impact on games as both a kicker and a punter was far greater. Valpo won 2 league games...Dunning won a championship for Drake (see San Diego).

Step winning COY kind of surprises me. Picked first in pre-season, they finished first...An 18 game league winning streak...15-1 in the PFL the last 2 years...all great accomplishments. But Brandon Moore (SD) and Jason Woodman (MORE) did really good jobs this year. My pick would have been Woodman--picked 8th pre-season, and they were still alive for the championship in the final week. He has turned around that program.

Hurst was a no-brainer, as he's a dude...one of the best young QB's the league has seen in a while.

Kratochvil had a good year for a bad team. He's as good a pick as anybody. Contending teams in the PFL don't play a lot of freshmen on defense...usually it's a guy from a bad team. (see Martin from Stetson last year)

It will be interesting to see the all-league teams tomorrow.

Reed may have screwed up on the play you mentioned, but his overall numbers were amazing.

Claypool would have gotten my vote for POY.  Extra points for getting double teamed all season & having teams run to the other side.

To your point, only one PFL coach is up for the Eddie Robinson award, and that's Moore.  However, my vote would also have gone to Woodman.

All-PFL team announced...

https://pioneer-football.org/news/2024/12/3/football-drakes-claypool-san-diegos-reed-st-thomas-adebayo-unanimous-selections-lead-32nd-all-pfl-teams.aspx

A couple of quick observations...

* PFL Defensive Player of the Year was not a unanimous pick for 1st team.
* Shane Dunning gets 1st team kicker, 2nd team punter, and not Special Teams Player of the Year.
* Jake Birmingham of Valpo leads the league in tackles and only makes honorable mention...yet 3 Valpo defensive lineman make 2nd team. Valpo finished 6th in the league in yards allowed per game, and dead last in sacks.
* Valpo again...RB Mike Mansaray is 2nd team...he rushed for -3 yards against Drake. 11th in the league in yards gained rushing (361). How is he a top 4 RB?
* Kyle Elphick of Stetson finishes 3rd in the league in tackles and only makes honorable mention at LB.
* Dominic Perricone of Marist makes 1st team O Line over Ross Palmer of Drake. I guess Marist has to have somebody on the 1st team, but that ain't right.
*Presbyterian puts six guys on the 1st team...same as Drake. 6 seems a little high for a team that finished tied for 6th place at 4-4.

The coaches need a little work on their voting.

I bet Iowa State wishes they had Dunning today.  Their guy isn't cutting it.
