The NLI is being eliminated by the NCAA (not to be confused with NIL)

Will be interesting to see how this shakes out.

It sounds bad but in all honesty the NLI had essentially lost all meaning and validity anyways. Kids were getting out of it whenever they wanted.

Just another step closer to athletes being under contracts at the college level. They are close to finalizing the max roster scholarship rules and the lawsuit regarding direct NIL payments by universities will be settled soon. College athletics in 2025-26 will look very different.
NCAA's $2.78 billion settlement with colleges to allow athlete payments gets preliminary approval

If you guys listened to the MVC Media Day with Jeff Goodman in it you heard his idea of high majors paying mid majors for the players they poach. I don’t see how that’s possible or enforceable in the current climate, but I think that’s an exciting possibility once players are under contract. Similar to how coaches and professional players have buyouts in their contracts, we may see that at the collegiate level where Texas Tech would have had to have paid KO’s $75,000 buyout or something like that (just throwing out a number) so Drake gets compensated for identifying, recruiting, and developing the talent instead of being left with nothing after 1 year. Depending on the agreement, might even deter a P4 from poaching a guy if they have to pay a hefty buyout on top of paying them an already ridiculous salary.

is that a buyout from the NIL fund to the NIL fund, though?

No it wouldn’t be, at least not in my scenario. Thats kinda what I’m saying…I don’t really see a way where you could entice or enforce a rule where there’s a buyout in the current scenario. However if we get to the point where the athletes are certified employees of the university, allowed to unionize, sign contracts, etc. (which it sounds like most or all of that is more of an when, not an if) then there might be a possibility of a school like Drake, who would be directly paying the athlete’s salary, potentially writing a buyout into the contract where the school who entices them to leave would have to pay the buyout fee in order to fulfill/nullify the athlete’s contract with Drake, therefore rendering them “signable” again.

So is there a signing day for this year and the elimination is prospective?

If signing day, when is it?

AI says November 13-20.

Any chance we sign more than one?

It's a great idea and would certainly help to level the NIL playing field for mid-majors.
