The women opened with a draw at St. Thomas. They host Kansas on Sunday.

Next Thursday they are doing a doubleheader with the women playing Iowa State at 5 and the men playing Grand View at 7:30.

While the men lost both times after holding a lead at half, I do like that they are scheduling teams like Creighton and Northwestern.

Couple nice wins for the men - away over DePaul and at home over a decent Kansas City team. They still have a couple of midweek away nonconference games, but they otherwise open conference play Saturday at Evansville. 

The MAC schools that are currently affiliated to the MVC up the competition -- Western Michigan is currently ranked #4 and Bowling Green's only loss was to a ranked Michigan team. With Missouri State leaving I hope they can keep the MAC schools, because otherwise they'll be back down to five and having to find another affiliate or partner with the Summit League. UMass is joining the MAC and has soccer, so it's possible, although the MAC would still only have five schools and would need an affiliate. 

big game for the men tomorrow as they host #11 Western Michigan. The MVC is having a strong year (four teams in the top 50 of the RPI) and looks like they could get multiple bids. Drake is #46 in the RPI with WMU #25 -- it would be a good chance for a quality win. 

2 PM kick on what is unfortunately going to be a hot day -- but I'd encourage folks to head down (free admission) and check out the new stadium if you haven't yet.

Drake women tie Murray State 1-1 in their final regular season game. The Bulldogs tied UIC for second and are the 2-seed in the MVC Tournament. 

Drake men enter their final stretch of the regular season. If they take care of the MVC last place team on the road Friday, the Bulldogs could be playing for the MVC regular season title at home on November 6 vs. Missouri State.  Currently they are 2 points out of 1st place. 

Mo State currently ranked 13 in the country.  That would be pretty cool on the last day of the regular season.

FYI: the men have never won a regular season conference title

Men won at NIU, so Wednesday night will be for the conference regular season title. A tie favors Missouri State.

The winner will also host the conference tournament semis and final the next week as the #1 seed.

Hopefully we can see a big crowd. Attendance has picked up a bit from when they were at Cownie, although not to huge levels. 

Too bad it’s a weeknight game. Sunday afternoon game I’m assuming would bring in a pretty good crowd, though you consider the stadium is just a few blocks from the dorms and such. Hopefully some students show up.

Men's soccer lost 1-0 last night to Missouri State. They will be 2-seed in MVC Tournament. 

They are 33rd in the RPI. No one does a full bracketology for men’s soccer, so it’s hard to guess how close they are to a bubble (only 26 at-large bids). Western Michigan and Missouri State were ranked by the committee as top 16 seeds a couple of weeks ago so the MVC has some respect. Drake would play Bowling Green (#60) or UIC (#91) in the semis so they would have one more shot at a top 100 win without getting an auto-bid.

Women beat UIC in the MVC semis. Play Missouri State Saturday for an NCAA bid.

UIC had 18 shots to the Dogs six.  8-5 on goal.

Lost 4-0. Was at hoops so I can't really comment on how the game went. 

Boys lose conference tourney semifinal 1-0 to Bowling Green State on a goal late in 2nd half despite controlling pace/play :(

Congrats to the Bulldog men's soccer team for a fine season. They still have a shot at making the NCAA tournament field. When Creighton left the Valley for the Big East Conference it weakened the MVC, but with the addition of Western Michigan and Bowling Green State especially, the Valley is stronger. Its strength is probably best illustrated by what happed to the numbers 1 and 2 seeds in the MVC tournament this season. Missouri State and Drake both lost. The 3 and 4 seeds are playing for the championship.
