MKE mentioned this in another thread, but since there was an offer, will start a new thread. 6’10” from West Des Moines Valley https://x.com/Trevin_jirak20/status/1806734218787013006

It’s not everything, but you certainly can’t teach 6’10”

He looks like a good player and shows up in big games. The kid seems like a winner.

Maybe I have rose colored glasses but it blows my mind how that guy beats us out for in state players so often

+xMaybe I have rose colored glasses but it blows my mind how that guy beats us out for in state players so often So it seems to me Jake puts a bigger emphasis on in-state players than we have over the years. And I'm fine w/that. DeVries had his way w/him over the last few years, we were clearly more talented than them.

I agree. But 6-10 guys in your back yard don’t grow on trees

+xI agree. But 6-10 guys in your back yard don’t grow on trees I'm surprised at how many fans are still fixated on height. It's not how tall you are, it's how big you play.

Height is important. Even with Brodie, we lost to WSU and a significant factor was their height. And Tucker’s struggles to deal with their defense . Rebounding was key and even though our all time rebound leader is technically short, we could have used a little more rebounding height.
Granted I would rather have athletic guys, but having both some height and some athleticism is important.
So we will always see height as being critical in our recruiting as it is easy to measure and athleticism can be subjective.

His policy forever has been to lock down Iowa recruits. Its tough to beat that. That's kind of how I look at it. If we want the Bowens, we need to be willing to take a chance on the Duaxs and the Courbats. I'd say it's worked for UNI, but the best Drake teams have never been good because the roster was focused on recruiting Iowa. Garrett and Tucker are great Iowans that we have had recently, but those guys hardly came to Drake because we were making a push to recruit Iowans.

This is not a loss that upsets me in the least. I was kind of underwhelmed.

While there is talent in Iowa, there's a lot less of it and its not as deep as MN, IL, St Lous, etc

Any iowa player that actually commits to Drake gets way more recognition and fan support than they ever would at UNI ie Sturtz and Devries. just need to cherry pick the state for those missed by Iowa and ISU
