Do we think he's more mobile than Jonah Jackson and/or Okay Djamgouz? Maserati is 6'5" like Okay, but looks like he'd be more physical, got a bit more muscle. Because shooting will probably translate pretty darn well. Taller, faster dudes jumping at you so harder to get open but once you get used to that pressure... shooting is shooting. Jonah was still a good shooter in the shift from JUCO to D1. Winning is winning.

+xAnd he’s from Illinois!!! Thank goodness!! I saw a couple Olympic qualifiers this past week that were from Kansas City. TWO of 'em in ONE race! That's a geographic diversity disaster for USA...
Just DU it !

If I like Mitch 1/2 as much as I did Okay, he’s my guy! I still think there were games where we struggled at scoring and ultimately lost that Okay should have got more time. I would hold the horses some on Mitch. He redshirted his first year at NWMS. He didn’t start a game until about 40% thru his fourth year there. And BMC didn’t go after him right away after getting the Drake job. Sounds like he hasn’t been his first choice a lot and with how great a scout for talent he is there must be a reason.

The Academic All-American sharpshooter will be locked & loaded with a light stuck on Green !

He hadn’t decided on his 5th year until a little while ago. Was considering a job with a bank in Chicago, GA spot at Drake, or to play at Drake.

Just as an FYI for everybody who is new to Coach Mac and Mitch Mascari... 1. I wouldn't look too much into the redshirt year. It is very common for Coach Mac to redshirt his top players for various reasons. Three of the most decorated players from McCollum's tenure at Northwest (Justin Pitts, Ryan Hawkins, and Trevor Hudgins) were all redshirted during their true freshman season. 2. The statistics don't lie about the lack of starts, but he was a major part of the rotation throughout his later years...most of those were minutes used as a sharpshooter. 3. I don't know the story about his late commitment, so he definitely may not have been Coach Mac's first choice. However, he has already finished his undergrad (and I'm pretty sure he has his Master's already) and it was widely known that he was moving on with his life after this past season. It very well may have been a deal of Coach Mac really wanting him and Mitch being the one who was undecided for awhile on whether to pursue his professional career or play another year of basketball. Moral of the story, I would totally expect Mitch to be the 7th or 8th man in on this rotation and not a starter. I don't think he will play a ton of minutes, but when he is in, he will be a maximum effort type of player and I guarantee he will have the green light to shoot the ball. He will bring veteran leadership, knowledge of Coach Mac's system, and elite shooting to this team. If this team makes it to the NCAA Tournament, he is the type of player who can have a game similar to that D2 player from Oakland who lit up the scoreboard in last year's tournament.

Even before McCollum became Drake’s coach, Mascari had announced he wasn’t going to utilize his COVID season. So, I wouldn’t read too much into Mac not snagging him back when he got the other 3.

Hope he’s as good as we hope but the fact is it’s another guy from NWMSU. I can’t imagine any D1 team has ever had - I’m at guessing at number because not looking up - like 6 recruits from the same place or even 6 guys from anywhere D2
