The NCAA has announced that second time transfers will be granted a waiver for immediate eligibility for "medical or safety" reasons only. Interesting.

What do you think that means?

Looks like it means the power programs might have to find new ways to cheat.

UNC and FSU both have had players waivers denied in the past few days so that’s a good sign on the rules being enforced

Be careful what you wish for. We've been living off transfers.
Moving forward.....

+xBe careful what you wish for. We've been living off transfers. You know what I wish for? I wish college basketball returned to amateur status. Where the power schools paid high school "students" to attend their university by giving the cash to their AAU coaches, or funneling money to them through their church. Or, after a game, handing an envelope with (wink, wink, wink) meal money and an extra $1,000 bill from the booster, or ten $1000 bills, thrown between the two ten dollar bills. You know, the good old days.

It's just more out in the open now, which really isn't a bad thing.

Transfer Portal has worked well for us. I don't really see an issue with it at this point. The floodgates have already opened, this is just pouring a few more pitchers into the river.

BIG10 schools, all 250 of the teams in the conference, will each be given approximately 50 million bucks. The MVC will be lucky to make one million dollars for the MVC tournament. Somebody still has to explain to me how a "student-athlete" at UCLA or USC will be able to take classes as they travel to play Rutgers and Maryland. How about a layover in Chicago so they can get to Madison, Champaign and Iowa City. Football, even Drake, travel for four or five games on a Friday for a weekend game. College basketball schedules 30+ games a year. Two full days of travel for these power conferences, plus game day. I think there is an opportunity for Mid-Majors to recruit some students who want the college classroom experience.

The Valley in general just isn't in the same recruiting pool as the Power 6 conferences. That's fine and you can still win as has been proven by DeVries. Takes the right kids and the right fit.

I'm well aware it's about revenue and who is going to get the most eyes to watch on tv, and bodies at the game. These decisions are based on football, not girls volleyball or even men's basketball. It's a joke. It is what it is, and it sucks. I have zero interest in watching the NCAA tournament go to 96 teams. The next step will be the Mid-Majors playing the 14th place team from a power conference, for a play in game to get seats 12-16, as the power conferences get a first round bye because their NET is higher because they aren't going to play any of the competitive mids during the regular season. I believe, even with nine new players, a healthy Drake team can play with just about any team in the country on a neutral floor when March arrives. Sadly, they have to play near perfect basketball the entire season to even get the opportunity.

WTF Hammy? Get off your high horse man. Not sure who pissed in your Wheaties brother. Fair, not fair, whatever it is what it is and Drake will deal with it. Or they won’t. Nothing we can do about it.

Nothing we can do about it. I have respectfully edited the first line of my previous response. My apologies. Yes, USC and UCLA bolted to join the other schools of the greedy BIG18. It was THE University of Colorado that stuck the knife in the heart of the PAC12 conference when they announced they were heading back to the BIG12. Again, I know the Power schools are driven by football revenue. Does anybody else think it's likely Mid-major basketball is going to turn into D-1AA by 2030 when the power schools leave the NCAA. No high horse, just hoping my fortune telling is a cognitive distortion.

No high horse, just hoping my fortune telling is a cognitive distortion. The "not so hidden secret" is the Power 5 Conferences (or maybe now the Power 4) have been positioning to break away from the NCAA for years. This is why the NCAA caved and provided them autonomy in 2015. It is also why (other than tv revenue) they are putting non deserving Power 5 teams in all NCAA tournaments. If a division change happens by 2030 they are more likely to break away all together. The Big East Conference is best positioned to succeed if this happens, but even they did not receive the same autonomy as Power 5 schools and would most likely fail if the Power 5 schools split from the NCAA. Best case scenario long term for Drake would be somehow to get invited into the Big East, all NCAA tournaments expand to 128 teams, and the Power 5 schools have enough incentives to stay with NCAA. Not sure if Drake or the NCAA has positioned themselves for any of this to actually happen.

Should say, "Never wanted it to become a reality."
