Women just took down the number 1 seed ISU Redbirds 4-3 to make the tournament. Congrats to both programs.

The athletics department as a whole is having a nice year. Some programs still with room to grow, but both basketball and tennis teams had great seasons, volleyball had its best season pretty much ever, and cross-country and distance running track have improved quite a bit, although T&F still has room to improve.

Softball has dropped off a bit but has had success in the past. Golf isn’t great. Football needs a shakeup. Soccer for both has been okay, I am hoping that playing on campus will be a big boost.

Ouch. Cyclones are really really good. Tough matchup.

Women really battled but narrowly lost the doubles point, 7-6 in a tiebreaker on court 1.  Singles looks to be a bloodbath.  Possibly have a chance in 1 or 2 matches but I'm afraid the match will already be clinched before then.

I have no idea how Iowa State recruited good players. Don't get me wrong, REALLY good players. But why would players of this talent decide on these facilities?
They apparently play their matches at a Life Time Fitness in Urbandale 40 miles from campus, or the Ames high school courts.
Campus has 8 outdoor courts but they must be trash if they play matches at the high school.
And the on campus indoor facility only has two courts. Like... Why even bother with two courts when you know you need six?
It's mind boggling.
Usually it is Iowa State fans complaining about Drake facilities, so having it the other way around is a trip.

I’m confused as well. I will say the facility at Ames High is top notch, but with the weather in Iowa I can’t imagine they are practicing outside or playing many matches there at all. I thought Ames had an indoor facility, not just the 2 courts on campus. Weird deal for sure to have to drive to Urbandale from Ames to finish a match. Why not just start the match tgere knowing there was possibly inclement weather coming?
