The NCAA is launching the Women’s Basketball Invitational Tournament. Despite the name, the WNIT wasn’t affiliated with the men’s NIT (owned by the NCAA since 2005). So this WBIT will be the women’s equivalent to the NIT. The WNIT will still exist (for now) but will downsize to 48 schools. I am guessing it struggles since it’s now the third-tier tournament and pay-to-host might be a tough sell for schools outside the top 100. There is also a WBI that would be the rough equivalent of the CBI (the tournament Drake played in in Florida and lost when they blew a big lead to UNCW).
