We know Jennie tried her hardest to recruit her before she went to Iowa. I've wondered more than once if not getting Clark was one of the things that led Jennie to bolt for Oklahoma when she did. That said, I think Caitlin fits in better at Iowa than she would have at Drake. I don't hold any hard feelings.

Certainly bigger visibility there, don't know how anyone could reasonably argue that.

Well clearly that. But the point was fitting in. I thought that meant fitting in on the team. She would have fit into our team just fine.

Can confirm, Drake was absolutely all in on Clark. Iowa was coming off an elite 8 run with Megan Gustafson,. Hard to compete against Iowa in this instance.
I am sure Jennie was tired of getting screwed year after year on NCAA tournament seeding and placement at Drake. And OU isnt just any job. Great game Monday night against UCLA, was closer than the final score in LA would appear.

I understand Big > MVC, but I know the time Jennie spent personally recruiting her, whereas Bludder let Jan do the work. We were a top 40 guaranteed program, probably still borderline top 25 at the time. I believe Drake was Caitlins first offer. Props to Iowa though for getting her and fending off other top programs. It is cool to see a great talent pick a non traditional school and succeed. Maybe seeding and placement matters more in women's than mens, but you still have to win 6 or 7 tough games. Not getting at-large bids are what upsets coaches, like UAB or UNT deserved a bid over the last teams getting bids from major conferences in mbb. Jelly Walker of UAB, another missed opportunity for the NCAA to highlight a talented player and team.

The real Drake news is that two former players are coaching in the final.
Great accomplishment for both of them!
I wonder how Jan would have done as Drake coach if she took the job. I’m pretty sure she would have done very well.

Yep, MN, I’m not sure if Jensen just didn’t ever want to be a head coach because she’s arguably the greatest assistant coach in the game. Great player at Drake. Would have been interesting to see what she could have done here. But we’ve had some pretty good coaches over the years!

She is on staff just not technically an assistant coach. One of those special assistants to the head coach or whatever it’s called.

I called this game for Iowa true story call my friend. I said if Clark gets 40 and let Gamecoks shoot they'd win. That's the biggest problem since Staley has been there lack of shooting. Took this long to figure out. But honestly I thought only a fully healthy UCONN and a team with a Great player could beat them. Clark great scorer and passer and team hit shots. Bad coaching by Staley you can't allow one player to attribute for 58 I think of a team's 77 I think points. Forgot final score. JMO

Watched the Women's Championship game and question the competency of the assigned officials. Completely lacking in consistency. Not saying they favored either team just saying they created a strange and at times ugly game. Disappointing!

+xWatched the Women's Championship game and question the competency of the assigned officials. Completely lacking in consistency. Not saying they favored either team just saying they created a strange and at times ugly game. Disappointing! Agreed. Probably the largest TV audience in the history of women's college basketball, and there are more people talking about the officiating than about the game itself. Credit to LSU, they played great. But, the star players on both teams spent far too much time on the bench due to some ridiculous foul calls. Nobody wants to watch a ref show. That T called on Clark ranks right up there with the Aaron Hawley T from about 15 years ago. But, obviously with much bigger consequences.

The refs were terrible. Clark’s T was particularly egregious when LSU’s coach spent nearly the entire game on the court screaming at the refs.
Men’s refs can be pretty bad as well, but I imagine today was a missed opportunity for the sport. A huge audience tuned in to watch start players and instead saw a ref show.
