Seems like we have this discussion every season. Saw this on another message board several days ago, didn't want to post until after our season was over https://247sports.com/college/missouri-state/board/59468/Contents/coaching-moves-205786895/?page=2#M206389907DeVries has a P5 spot lined up and done.
Don't know who this guy is, but have been told that he's been "in the know" in the past. Drake is facing a rebuild next season. Will DD be back? Certainly hope so.

Not saying that the message board guy is wrong, but anyone can post anything on a message board. I could post that DeVries is leaving and we are hiring Keno again. That doesn't mean I know what I'm talking about.

An unverified comment on a Mo st fan forum? Yeah I’ll wait and see. Honestly, look, I think the program is headed in a great direction. Coach DD rebuilt us and if he goes, well, thank you for putting us on the right path. We owe him a lot and I am not going to cry about it, just look forward. Of course I’d be happy if he stays.

The one job I've been worried about for a while now is ND, can't really see anything else open that makes sense for him.

That doesn't mean I know what I'm talking about. Believe me, I know that. But, I've been told that this guy is genuinely pretty reputable. Could be complete b.s. I hope it is. But, it's out there, and DD's name has already been mentioned heavily with the Notre Dame job. It's going to be discussed. Just wanted to wait til the Bulldogs season was over. Hoping he's here for many more seasons.

ND is the only P5 job open in the midwest that I'm aware of, and several of the "experts" list him as one of the potential candidates.

I honestly think DD has some in game learning to do. He is a great teacher and developer. And his game plans are solid. I hope he stays because there is a ton of upside left and that would be great for Drake.

IF that happens part of me wants them to hire Richter ASAP but also we can probably get a caliber of name that we haven't had in maybe 50 years? Could see some guys we wouldn't consider being interested that would be.

Notre Dame is supposedly going to go hard after Penn State’s coach. And I don’t see any other open position that would match up with what he would want.

I think the best way to look at this is to put yourself in DD's shoes.
1. If one of his goals is to get his son to the NBA, it may help to get some competition at a larger conference.
2. Presumably, he can get more money elsewhere.
3. You had a team this year that was one of the oldest in college basketball, and in some ways you need to start over.
4. In the new portal era, it is going to be more and more likely that mid-majors are going to be farm systems for larger schools with more NIL opportunities. Can you imagine how good Drake would have been with Yesufu and Robbins?
The only thing Drake has going for it is that I think he can stay here pretty much as long as he wants and not have a ton of pressure. There's something to be said for stability. Keno had a lot of problems at Providence, but those checks cleared.

Sort of an underrated thing to watch out for is if Richter finally gets a low major or mid major head coaching job. I know he’s been in the running the last few years with some of those lower level Florida schools.

+xNotre Dame is supposedly going to go hard after Penn State’s coach. And I don’t see any other open position that would match up with what he would want. The Irish are said to be targeting coaches from Penn State, Ohio State, Colgate, and Drake. Notre Dame basketball coaching search: Chris Holtmann, Micah Shrewsberry among four reported names to watch (247sports.com) ND is a tough job in very tough conference, but much more money and greater resources. Not sure about NIL at the school. The Penn State coach has excelled these past 10 days, and will have his choice of jobs this cycle if he chooses to leave. If Drake would have advanced and won a few games in the tournament, there would be many schools looking to hire Coach DeVries. Will the ending to tonight's game affect his candidacy? Is he still the flavor of the month? I have no idea. He has done a great job at Drake, and there is no reason he cannot continue to deliver similar results at another school. We have been lucky to have him on our bench for these past five years.

Keno had a lot of problems at Providence, but those checks cleared. But for it to be ANY P5 job just doesn't make sense. That's why ND is almost a perfect fit, very similar to CU in many ways. Like I said Richter is my 1, I'd also be very interested in Eric Henderson and Ben McCollum.

Does D Rock have the NCAA tourney success for Notre Dame though? I feel like they have Sweet 16 consistently aspirations, not win a play in game aspirations. Holtmann has the most success of that lot. I dunno, I just don't FEEL it.
I do feel us losing Richter fairly soon though.

Holtmann doesn't come with an NBA prospect with the same last name in tow though.
