Sometimes a player is just on and has a night of a lifetime where every shot goes in,Then the best thing to do is play your normal game and shut the rest of the other team down,

Drake turns the game over to UNI. UNI 70 69 Drake
Despite Panthers out rebounded 53-36, and shooting 11-23 from the free throw line, UNI win thanks to 20 turnovers by Dogs. Points off turnover: Panthers 23-Drake 14. Drake shot 16-18 from the line.

McDermott really finished things off for UNI. Frustrating finish.

Pretty much gave the way the last 4-5 minutes. Most of the 20 turnovers were unforced. Just awful passing. Many missed scoring opportunities early in the game. A couple of very questionable foul calls on Bair in the 2nd half kept her playing time to 20 min.

Also, thought Bair got body on maybe only one of the four foul calls. The team is fun to watch and they play hard! I think the defense is better than years past. However, I don't understand why they don't play women-to-women defense. The match up zone exposes the middle and forces the Drake bigs to guard multiple players at the same time. It's just not possible. Leads to easy attempts, an easy basket, or a foul.

If you're not a subscriber, Katie did gymnastics with the likes of Gabby Douglas until the 4th grade when she burned out and switched to basketball. Now she's a pre-pharmacy major with a business minor. Always love how our women are going for the tough course loads.

About the calls on Bair. I was being kind to the refs when I said a "couple" of questionable calls on Bair. Most curious was that the ref making the call was, on each call, out of position to even make a call.

Indiana State no match for Drake today. Not only did their announcers miss that Berg got her 1000 point on Wednesday not today, but their team couldn't match our shooting or assists as we cruised to a 21 point win.

Drake is currently leading the nation (yes nation) in Assists Per Game and Defensive Rebounds Per Game.
While in recent years turnovers have been an issue, this year we aren't even in the Top 50 (while Iowa & UNI are) for most turnovers per game.

http://www.espn.com/womens-college-basketball/bracketologyDrake now on the next four out list for an at-large NCAA tournament bid. From my view we would need a lot of help to get it, including winning out, but nice to see us on the list none the less.

Drake trailed by one after three only to go on to a 24-9 advantage in the fourth quarter. Bulldogs win 87-73.
The ladies will head to Springfield this weekend to face Missouri State, a winner over the first place Panthers... 71-67
ILL ST 7-1 (Plays Friday) UNI 7-2 DRAKE 7-2 MSU 6-3
As always, excellent movement and backdoor cuts down the lane on the offensive end. Five in double figure. Anna Miller, just a sophomore, is really developing her game this year. Drake turnovers! 21, SIU finished with 19. Interestingly, many of Drake's were dead ball turnovers avoiding a Southern fastbreak basket.

Missouri State defeating Northern Iowa makes the next two games extremely critical to the regular season title race. Right now both Drake & UNI are tied for second both a half game out of first. We need to defeat Missouri State to keep that going and then defeat UNI to erase the tiebreak they currently have on us. I still think the only NCAA bid the MVC will get will be the winner of Hoops in the Heartland. With the new 12 team format, need to finish in the Top 4 to avoid an extra Thursday game.

Way too many missed open layups and unforced turnovers. The offense really creates great shots.

Drake loses to MSU in Springfield 64-54, drop to 7-3 in conference.
Dogs with 23 TURNOVERS!!!!! Dogs attempted just 43 shots to MSU's 67. That match up zone continues to allow offensive rebounds and endless open looks by the opposing team. I'll never understand why they don't play women-to-women defense

+xLadies losing 39-31 at half against Missouri St in Springfield. Here is the stat of the half: Shots taken--- MSU 40 21 Dogs. Dogs continue to turn the ball over...12 turnovers in the first half. No boxing out in their match up zone defense. Given up 12 offensive rebounds. Horrible game for the Bulldogs. Had at least 23 turnovers. Did not rebound 1st half. Missed 9 free throws. Did not shoot well from perimeter and missed some bunnies. Most turnovers were unforced. Final 64-54.

Tough loss. Plenty of film to study for the re-match. There's still a long way to go, but there is a little separation in conference standings right now between the Top 5 and the rest. If that holds, the re-match in Des Moines could very well determine who gets the Thursday bye at Hoops in the Heartland. That game will also be the second-to-last conference game so it will warm us up nicely for the tourney.

Drake reports limited tickets remain for the Drake block at Hoops in the Heartland. We always have a good showing especially after the move to Moline and ticket sales align with that.
