Dogs open the season with a 1-0 win at Kansas City. Fairly large contingent of Drake fans at the game surprisingly.

I was about to ask "Is Drake expected to be any good this year for mens or womens?"
Well, men are selected to finish 7th. Which is last, because apparently the MVC has a lot of teams without men's soccer. Oof. Missouri State #1 because they are ranked in the top 25. Belmont and UIC are 2 and 3.
Drake women picked 4th out of 11. Not bad, not great.

Soccer team has really struggled since we got rid of Holmes. Not suggesting it wasn’t the right thing to do as I have no idea what happened, but we have not been great since he left.

Got to the second round of the NCAA tournament in 2015, so that's something. But consistency has definitely been lacking. Were we consistently good when Holmes was around though? Outside of the Elite 8 in 2009, looks to be a lot of .500 teams when I flip back through the results over the years. Sort of feels like Drake is rarely absolute trash, but rarely elite either. Probably hard to be elite when you play games far off campus at Cownie. Hopefully the new stadium will help once it's done.

Looking back it appears you are right! We didn't really take advantage of our elite 8 run. While it hasn't seemed to help UMKC their on campus soccer complex is very nice in my opinion. I'll be interested to see if it helps our recruiting when the new complex is built.

The men are 4-1-2 and 2-0-0 in the MVC. Not a tough schedule and the offense isn’t great, but the new coach has them playing good defense with two straight shutouts (1-0 in both) over UIC and SIUE.

2-0 win over Belmont today moves them to 3-1 and 5-2-3. 2nd place behind Mo State, who is 4-0. Decent first season for the new coach so far.

Men won again to get to 4-1. They have away games at Evansville and Missouri State next week that will shake out their finish before one final game at Cownie. Nice first year for the coach. Going forward will be interesting, they have a bunch of seniors and several freshmen without a ton of contributions from sophomores and juniors. Kind of like how unbalanced the classes were under Giacoletti.

Men finished 5-2-1 in the MVC (7-3-4 overall). MVC QF v Bradley on Sunday. One last game at Cownie.

Lots of realignment on the MVC front. The MAC ran out of associate members, so they dropped men’s soccer. So Bowling Green, Western Michigan, and Northern Illinois are in the MVC as affiliate members. Meanwhile, the OVC announced today that it’s adding men’s soccer, so SIUE is out. No Akron (Big East), but those are good adds. Drake will need to step up its game.
MVC men’s soccer is now.

So will the new complex be finished by the Fall in time for men's soccer? Is that the plan to start playing on campus this Fall? Anyone in the know?

If you've driven by the site lately, hard to imagine the stadium being done by fall. Granted these things tend to pick up a lot of momentum late but it wouldn't surprise me at all if this gets delayed.
