This is a particularly sensitive subject for me since he was in the class behind me.

+xSounds like Iowa is announcing Gatens soon. Sounds like a lot of people think it’s a done deal. If he’s gone, I’m guessing DD has known that it was coming. Hopefully won’t take long to hire a replacement. Maybe they’ll promote Ellingson, like they did with Gatens when Woodley left.

Gatens to Iowa has officially been announced.
I'm expecting that they'll promote Ellingson, just like they did with Gatens when Woodley left.

+xwild card wish list: Josh Young Kyle Korver Bucky Cox Doug McDermott Anthony Tolliver I like your list! McDermott probably has more than a few years left in the NBA though. Korver would bring a ton of playing experience under a variety of coaches as well as a ton of credibility. JY has a ton of experience in Europe and love the Drake ties. Tolliver has probably played for just about every team in the NBA and thus influenced by a ton of different coaches. Managed to grind out a lengthy NBA career. Not sure what Bucky has been up to. Anybody know?

Anybody know? I agree that it’s a great list. Just not sure any of those guys are interested in coaching right now. All are certainly much better options than Urby’s “suggestion” 🤪

I once again tweeted to JY about the new opening. Think that makes 3 in a row, bless him, he always responds without crushing my dreams.

+xAnyone else on the Creighton staff worth poaching? We're not going to get a lateral move assistant to assistant. Creighton will be a top ten, maybe top five, team this year. Unless you want the team manager or something, might not have too much to steal from Creighton.

Rambling Thoughts on our next Assistant
I like JY, but after playing overseas probably wants some time to enjoy family, scope the basketball landscape, and it looked like he was training meanwhile. Too bad more time hasn’t passed.
I might look if a juco-D2 coach want to move up, but it’s late in the process. I don’t think a top prep school coach would guarantee us any top recruits in the future at this point.
Any coaches with top high school seniors sons?
Since our roster is older and set this season; an older veteran coach for 1 yr wouldn’t be another terrible idea. Bruce Weber or Mark Turgeon, not sure they would be up for the bus rides.
Promoting brady and replacing him is the easiest option.

I can't see either one working as an assistant, especially at a mid-major. Both of them have been head coaches for so long, it would be tough to make the adjustment to not being the head honcho. I'd be all for a juco head coach IF they could bring a good player with them.

Yeah, those are 2 who came to mind, both have made too much money to probably happen. Short term-1 season I would love to see something like this. I feel this year is another repeat of expectations and it’s NCAA tourney or bust. So go all-in.
Long-term we need 4-5 recruits at least so an assistant to help with that would be nice.

I think everyone here assumes it’s Ellingson.

Looks like we've hired Tom Ostrom. Associate Head coach at Indiana from 17-21 and 6 year assistant at Dayton from 2011-17.
