I know DeVries mentioned it more than once during interviews, before the season had even ended.  Not sure if that's an official announcement, but fans knew that the players were for sure coming back.  Not sure if other schools have made official announcements, but I have seen dozens of players make an announcement.

Another one checked off the list.  Only thing left is to announce a signing.

So Speraw retired at Iowa today.  Will be interesting to see if Gatens is contacted.  Hope not but could certainly be possible.

There's definitely still some chatter out there about Iowa hiring Gatens.  I guess we'll know soon.

I just looked at one of the Iowa message boards (Rivals)....a couple posters on there said it's a done deal that Gatens will be Iowa's new assistant.

If Gatens is gone, what do you all think about promoting Ellingson from DOBO into Gatens' position?  That would be the same trajectory that Gatens took.

I would wonder if DD would look to hire someone with a little more experience since Richter appears to have head coach aspirations and Edwards is so young. How tough of a spot would DD have been in if this Gatens stuff turns out to be true AND Richter had gotten the FGCU job? Whew.

But I wouldn’t be opposed to Ellingson, then Norton would slide into the DOBO spot. Since we are sort of past the coaching carousel it may be the best option this time of year.

Yeah I've heard Hawkeye fans throw his name out for the Speraw spot too. Dean Oliver is the third name you hear, but that would be quite the lateral move for him. I don't know if Horner would want to give up a head coaching spot either, granted it would be for his alma mater.

I've literally seen zero other names thrown out besides Gatens, Horner, and Oliver.

Every time there's an opening on staff, in perpetuity. 

Whenever Josh is done playing in Europe, I would love to see him on the staff.  Anybody know if he has interest in coaching?

I think JY would be phenomenal if we end up with an opening...but not sure what his contract status is, and if that would be a wrinkle...

Shat, he's gotta be like 36 or 37 now, right? ... set the all time record for number of seasons played by a US Citizen over seas. Timing has a lot to do with opportunities no matter the occupation, but particularly coaching. That'd be a honk'n hail of splash for DRock, JY, and Drake in general.
