All 5 starters returning from last season, but not nearly as good.
Brodie has regressed. Tank isn't quite the same player as last season, but I'm seeing flashes of it. DJ hasn't improved his offensive game since his freshman year Roman is turning it over way more than last season.

I think I recall something in the offseason about how the team wasn't practicing as frequently or as intensely as last season because we've got guys coming back from injury and are just generally an older, banged up bunch.
If I'm remembering correctly, then I'm curious if we are seeing the problems with that approach.

No idea. Seems like someone was just able to step up in the last few minutes last year and make a play. We were leading 2 of these 3 games in the last 3-4 minutes, just not making the key play. Even Bama was tied around the 5 minute mark I believe. Truly think Tank needs to hunt his shot more. Slash and go son. Tucker going to be a baller but he’s made some mistakes and forced some shots late in these games.

I think there's a little bit of complacency. Too many unforced turnovers, especially early in games.
If the 'dogs didn't dig themselves a huge hole in all 3 games, who knows what could have been.

Tank has to get the ball more inside or in the 15-18 foot range. He doesn’t have a reliable mid range jumper, but his hooks and floaters worked well last year. Would really like to see him go back to that.
Think we need late game P&Rs with Mell involved. Theyre our best options right now and frankly Mell is the better driving option.
Idk what to do with the 5. If Brodie isn’t going to score, won’t make smart passes out of the post, and won’t use his strength on defense, then he can’t be in the game. I like Ferguson’s game, but hes undersized to go against starting level centers on a lot of teams (Though Brodie gets his lunch taken too, so 🤷🏻♂️)
Others have said it, but theres no off ball movement on offense this year and our court vision hasn’t improved. We rely solely on isos or P&Rs and have 0 cutters outside of Sturtz. Our offense is utterly broken and idk that any one or 2 things will fix it.

D Rock throwing in a few stinkers to keep the big school athletic directors off his scent so he can stick around Drake longer. Genius.

They believed all the hype about how good they are. They forgot that you have to play the game and just showing up is not going to win the game. Hopefully this a wakeup call.

The problem? Dribble, dribble and more dribble then look for the shot as shot clock gets to 5. When penetration is made into the paint, how often is the ball passed out to the wing for the open jumper prior to the penetrator being trapped by multiple defenders and no good outlet possible?
BAN THE BALL SCREEN!!! BAN THE BALL SCREEN!! BAN THE BALL SCREEN!!

A common denominator in all 3 Florida games was a slow start and a weak finish. We need to come roaring out of the gate and turn up the energy level at the end of the game. We also need more confidence in our 3 point shooting and more willingness to shoot the 3's.

Yeah agreed. This team was standing around acting like the team that had Joe bail them out all game at the end of last year

Player and team would both be better off. Joe is averaging 8 minutes and 2.4 ppg. Sorry if this subject is supposed to be off limits but it's very germane. I hold no ill will toward Joe and wish him well, but I wonder if he's a bit homesick.

All weekend I've had flashbacks to Iowa State football this season.
We're not going to sneak up on anyone anymore. Everyone knows/expects we are a skilled team now and are going to prepare accordingly.
The good news is if there are opportunities to improve, which I think there are, we have the time to do so. We played 3 NCAA Tournament teams this weekend. We may not see another until St. Louis. Valpo at home should be a win & Clemson is not that good this year (the entire ACC aside from Duke looks down). Plenty of practice time over the course of the next month to get things together.

No Yesufu. No Issa. Everybody but Sturtz and Murphy regressed. No leadership. Tremendous should be a leader, but appears to not be his thing. We can still improve, but with no post and nobody to create, we need to make some significant offensive adjustments

The offensive set does seem very basic and what was run today didn’t seem to fit players strong suits. Maybe Tank isn’t completely healed from last year but seems like this lineup is capable of running a more fast paced offense and improvise a little. The amount of shots as the shot clock is running out is kind of nuts. What did DeVries say in the tournament last year? Now we’re just hoopin’? They need to go back to that. Couple times in the Belmont game it seemed like Brodie backed off on defense because he was afraid of fouling. Last year Yesufu was running most of the alley oops. Seems like a work in progress this year.
At least Tucker looks like the real deal and we don’t need to worry about him bailing in 1-2 years.

Hate to say it but I think it’s on Coach
1. Every team came out hustling and fired up. We seemed very lethargic - not just Brodie but he is the leader in that category. How can you get invited to a tournament like this and not be ready with all 3 games on national tv
2. I guess kind of like point 1. But we always seem to get in early hole and spend most of game digging out not just these 3 games but last year too.
3. Horrid offense. Won’t don’t move the ball like this others did. We get very few easy open looks I don’t understand why there is so much dribbling. Everyone knows the ball moves much faster passing it
4. He needs to light a fire under everyone. Get tougher on them. Kansas moved the ball great and Self was still yelling at them
5. Can’t go inside then Shoot more threes instead of passing ball around perimeter
6. We still my are 7 or 8 deep. I’d like to see a lot more full court pressure - traps and ragging the other team all over floor. Double trans etc. we just drop Back after they inbound ball.

+xHate to say it but I think it’s on Coach I wasn't going to say anything either, but he's strugging this year just as much as everyone else. Maybe its just a tough year and we haven't found chemistry. We are not playing with any swagger or energy except for limited moments.

One quick point about the offense. It looks to me exactly like what we’ve always run. He hasn’t changed it. It’s been pretty successful in the past. Now I’m guessing everyone knows what we’re doing but it comes down to execution. Maybe time for some variations on it? DeVries knows what he’s doing. I think we’ll be fine. Or I at least hope so!
