We obviously don't have a consistently solid big man.

+xWe obviously don't have a consistently solid big man. Preach. I'm really disappointed in Brodie. I expected him to come back leaner and quicker, but he actually gained 20 pounds in the offseason. Can't guard anybody, and he's not a shotblocker

+xHe should be embarrassed and not start tomorrow! I think the Bulldogs need to play small ball the rest of the season. Yeah, we'll have some trouble guarding the interior, but opposing 5's will have a lot of trouble guarding Tremell or Tucker.

I'd like to see Tank run some more time at the 5. Think he could be an interesting mismatch, and his athleticism may give him a better chance on the defensive end.
Brodie has to turn it around. If that's all he has to give, then his time's up and he needs to ride the bench. He isn't making effort plays and he's the largest dude on the floor 90% of the time. The fact he doesn't have at least 8 boards a game is ridiculous.

I really thought he'd dedicate himself over the summer to coming back in great shape.

We need 6’11-7’0 footer! We need a player who is athletic can shoot outside and play defense. I hope we can recruit European players this summer

There's matchups where Brodie will be useful. Facing skilled big men like 33 is not gonna be one of them. Think we'll need to have some matchup specific lineups to combat that weakness.

Seriously, if Brodie works his ass off to get in shape, he can be a helluva player. But, that will have to be for the 2022-23 season. That's assuming he even comes back for his extra COVID year. Edit: 2424 beat me to it by typing less than I did :)

Last year, Brodie had a lot of problems with non-traditional 5's....guys who would set a pick and then go out to the 3-point line. He held his own against traditional low post guys. #33 was that kind of guy, and he just destroyed Brodie. If he doesn't drop some weight and improve his quickness, I'm not sure who he'll match up well against.

The thing that irritates me the most is Brodie doesn't appear to have worked on the parts of his game we need him too. We don't need him to score a million points or be an anchor on the inside. We need him to push bigs off their spots, rebound and box out like no one else can touch him (because they shouldn't be able too), and not give stupid fouls. bonus for 6-8 points a game. All he needed to do was work on his agility and quickness, maintain or cut a bit of weight, and work on rebounding drills.
Unless he has a full on turn around by conference season, we're going to play small ball a lot. Not sure how sustainable that is long term

I dropped 40 in 6 months, so I know it's doable. And I wasn't working out nearly as much as he does, so he's burning way more calories every day than I did.

That said, there is still only a handful of games where we won't be better off going small at this point.

When I thought we'd be a top 25 team, I was assuming Brodie would be improved. I think without a stong 5, we're a decent team, but nothing that's going to get us into the tourney. Quite disappointing.
