Another poster suggested (more than once) in the St Thomas thread that Drake needs to make a change.
What do you think?

The defense has been good enough that you can hold out hope that there’s something salvageable, especially with the QB injury rotation, but my god is the offense pitiful. They’ve played 11 PFL games this calendar year and have failed to reach 18 points in eight of them. At a minimum you have to start from scratch on an offensive scheme.

I haven't voted yet, but should Drake change offensive coordinators, I suggest going big and going weird. Also, I think we need someone who has worked with quarterbacks. Here is Brown's Iowa/Nebraska recruiter... https://brownbears.com/sports/football/roster/coaches/heather-marini/5912

Brown has a horrendous defense, but the team scores points. And their QB is #12 in FCS passing yards.

Drake should hire a new head coach. Although I respect some of the current assistants, none of them should be candidates for the HC job at this point. Drake needs an outsider. And give the new HC authority to clean house if he chooses. I'm less worried about players transferring next spring than I am about the effects of delaying what needs to be done.

Agree that if a change is made, it should be a clean break. Last two hires have been in-house, and it's been a steady downhill trajectory.

Three years later, I cringe at this video: https://who13.com/sports/new-drake-coach-loves-landing/No, it's not the easiest job in America. The video cuts him off mid-sentence. I wonder how he finished it. Kind of sounds like, "If these kids didn't run on autopilot, I wouldn't know what to do."

We all know that the offensive is really, really bad. Is the problem recruiting, coaching, scheme, player development....a combination of all of the above?
I know I've asked this question before, but not sure of the answer yet.

There needs to be a change…. There are major questions around the scheme & play calling. Are the right players on the field? That’s an unknown, but I think most people can agree the running game was non existent… inside zone was run very often and did not seem to go anywhere… there was some more yards when ran outside/off tackle… lots of 3rd and long situations and way too many short passes that were no where near the line to gain. I could go on and on regarding analysis around what we saw and where we should go, but will save that for later if solicited. Bottom line is a change has to happen… 75 points in 7 conference games is not going to cut it…

I don't know the X's and O's at all, but I feel like I know good football when I see it, and this ain't it. I was really worried when right after he was hired, Stepsis mentioned make some comments that made it sound like his offensive philosophy was along the lines of "three yards and a cloud of dust". There's a good reason teams don't play that way anymore. Just curious, when you say there needs to be a change, are you saying the head coach needs to go, or that other changes may be enough?

I've been wondering what athletic directors at other schools would think of our coach's performance. Stepsis' league record over three seasons is 9-12, including 1-7 this fall. The FCS head coach with the most similar record appears to be at Lafayette. That coach has slightly better marks than Stepsis, at 13-14 in the (Patriot) league and 2-5 this fall. Lafayette fired its coach today.

3 yards and a cloud of dust would actually be an improvement to what they did this year…. I’m not here to say someone should go or not, but a change needs to happen… so if that’s the HC the OC the AD the President, changes need to happen. The university seems to treat the Football team like a 3rd rate citizen… the AD doesn’t seem to do much for football…. money is in short supply all the way around and makes the jobs of the coaches no doubt that much more difficult… that said the offense is in the territory of historic lows… philosophically it doesn’t make sense… how you can constantly run on 1st and 2nd down to only put yourself in a 3rd and long does no favors to a struggling pass blocking o-line… running fades is a tough throw when on the run and screens or short crossing routes that consistently are 5-6 yards short of the sticks on 3rd down is asking a lot .. there are a number of minor tweaks that could be made and a realistic view of this season could have resulted in 5 wins (Valpo, SD, Butler, ST, Marist) Dayton a few additional tweaks and it could of set up the Davidson game as the championship…

Here's what some other coaches are doing this weekend... Joe Woodley, head coach, Grand View. You may recognize that he is the brother of former Drake basketball player/coach Matt Woodley. Joe Woodley will lead his 12-0 team into a playoff quarterfinal game on Saturday. Prior to taking over as head coach from his father, he served one stint as Grand View's defensive coordinator, then another as the team's offensive coordinator. Sean Coughlin, assistant coach (run game/O-line), Eastern Michigan. The former Drake Bulldog is an assistant for Chris Creighton. Eastern (7-4) will play its regular season finale, then wait for a bowl bid. Steve Ryan, head coach, Morningside. His 11-0 team will play in the NAIA quarterfinals this weekend. The Mustangs have won two previous NAIA titles under Ryan, who seems to have copied more than a bit of Creighton's style from when they both coached at Ottawa. Jeff Thorne, head coach, North Central College. His 10-0 team will play in the second round of the Division III playoffs. The former Eastern Illinois quarterback coached North Central to the D-III national title in 2019.

I suspect that if the HC is not fired by Dec. 1, his job is safe for another year.

If we are going to see a change, I assume we’d see it by tomorrow.
