Will this mean the end of the Big 12? Will the SEC super league cut loose from the NCAA? What would that mean for the NCAA and its members? Will the Big 12 go the way of the South Western Conference? How will Drake/MVC be affected, if at all?
I think the SEC will split from the NCAA. It will be seen not as institutions of higher learning, but as a farm league for the NFL. The NCAA will return to its original mission of focusing on academics (the Big 10 already does). That’s good for Drake, although I’m not sure how it all plays out. And yes, the Big 12 is through as a P5 league.

No clue how it washes out But between this and the NIL crap.- (Seems to me a free education isn’t bad when most families struggle for college ) I just think college sports are ruined. It

The shoe that may or may not be waiting to drop is either federal legislation or an NLRB ruling that allows DI athletes to unionize and negotiate for a percentage of the gate. That would effectively end the concept of "student-athletes". And for the estimated 80% of DI schools who are already operating in the red, it could be curtains for participating at the DI level.

I don't think the SEC leaves the NCAA. Remember, the NCAA still sanctions national championship in everything except FBS Football. The NCAA is also working on changing what/how they do things.
I think there is very little impact on Drake/MVC generally speaking. There could be some impact on who we are able to play during the non-conference part of the season but that's a long way down the road.
Regarding the future of the Big 12, I think one of two things happen: 1) Someone like a Nebraska sees an opportunity to go to the conference and immediately become a conference power. Then someone like a UCF gets left out of the CFP again and they take the 10th spot saving the conference. 2) The Big 12 & American merge. Some Big 12 schools may end up in other conferences.
I think the more immediate question is timing. Right now everyone is publicly saying 2025 but the media consensus is 2022.

I think it would be funny if Memphis/Cincinnati/Houston left the AAC and left Wichita in a pretty meh basketball league.

When Northern Illinois football was good, they were under consideration by the big 12. If Big 12/mw/aac take schools from Mac or lower (mvc) maybe then it impacts us. For example niu to big12, ISUr to Mac

I don’t think northern Illinois to the big 12 was ever a realistic thing although it would have been fun to see Oklahoma in dekalb. Would never happen tho. They can’t even draw 1000 people for basketball games

No MAC team is going to the Big 12.
If they decide to add new teams, it would likely be schools like Memphis, Cincinnati or BYU.
I also wouldn’t anticipate any MVC teams going to the MAC. But, you never know.

I think the bigger threat is NIL and transfer portal.

The rest of the Big 12 pussed out when they allowed Texas to batch slap 'em around with the payout and Longhorn Network. They should of fished and cut bait years ago. Oklahoma is not in reality ...

Prescott, it is way too early for anyone to have a real idea exactly what the NIL impact for college athletics will be, no matter how many think pieces might have been written.
That said, to me the biggest impact NIL will have is that schools and Learfield will lose corporate dollars from sponsors, and athletic gifts from donors, that will instead filter directly to recruiting/retention/using NIL of prominent student athletes for marketing purposes instead of directly supporting athletic departments with those dollars. With the vast majority of DI programs operating in the red prior to covid/NIL, and the continued arms race within revenue generating sports not slowing down, non-revenue generating/olympic sports will continue to be cut across the country. It will be interesting to see what transpires.

Are there five athletes in the entire NCAA population that, together, will move the needle? Who in the Valley would it be? And what female athlete is going to make big money?

+xAre there five athletes in the entire NCAA population that, together, will move the needle? Who in the Valley would it be?And what female athlete is going to make big money? I don't think this is so much about individuals as it is going to be about entire teams getting paid to appear in meaningless commercials or on websites. I still think you are going to see rich supporters putting entire teams on salary for "endorsing" their product. The players will bring nothing to the table, but certain schools ae going to benefit greatly due to the money their players will make. IT essentially ends amateur sports at the college level. Is there any reason this won't happen in high school too?

I guess I see that. So who would buy Southern Illinois? Or Mississippi Valley State?

NIL will certainly create a bigger divide between the bigger schools and mid-majors. By itself, however, I do not see it ruining college sports. The game changer, and what Drake and other mid-major schools need to worry about, is "pay for play". That is the end game for attorneys and others representing college athletes -- athletes in DI revenue sports (basketball and football) getting a percentage of the gate. Now THAT would (1) put an end to the concept of "student athletes" and (2) destroy Division I sports for at least 80% of colleges presently playing at the DI level that are already operating in the red.
