As mentioned in a different thread, Jenny has left to become coach at Oklahoma.
Any thoughts on new coach? Are any of the assistants ready to take over?
I don't know enough about it to offer any suggestions.

I'd say Pohlman has to be considered. She has plenty of experience and has headed up recruiting for a while.

I didn't realize how long Pohlman had been at Drake, definitely seems like she would be a solid choice. Sometimes I worry about the complacency of hiring the AHC, but that's a little different when it's been such a successful program. (This is mainly me laughing at myself in retrospect when I remember how badly I wanted Jeff Rutter and then Dave Thorson to be hired on the Men's side).

+xSorry, correct spelling is Renaissance woman, Jan Jensen She makes about $250k at Iowa, I know previously Drake probably couldn't touch that for a WBB coach but I don't know if they have gotten closer to that since the Glazer-Burt gift?

We know this can be at least a top 25 program, I felt our recruiting fell off slightly and I do like this class coming in if they stay. The 2 mentioned above would be my top 2 choices. Was looking at top 50 lists of assistant coaches Hayes fort was on the list. Then with the big 10 who know what assistants are good besides Maryland. The top 10 seem to flip every year and recruiting seems fairly even.

Seems odd that he listed 2 current MVC coaches......would the MSU coach really leave there to come to Drake?

I was thinking the same thing, especially her, she is also appears to be in the $250k range. SIU's coach is closer to that $150k range it appears, but it also looks like she wasn't interested in the Illini job a few years back.

I checked the ncaa attendance figures for 2019-2020 drake averaged roughly 3500 attendance per home game boomer Sooners averaged 2019-2020 roughly 2500 per home game maybe they figure Jenny will sell some additional tickets?

Well, if Baylor keeps recruiting post players with the Bruce Jenner Syndrome, Jenny will have a tough time winning championships. She will meet Toby Keith!

If Jensen has any desire to be a head coach she would be an amazing hire. Otherwise she’ll probably never leave.

Jensen would be awesome, at least on paper. I just wonder if she’d take it/Drake could afford her.

I highly doubt that was the final reason though it won't hurt. If 1000 tickets was going to make the difference for women's basketball there they would just increase prices. After 25 years with the same coach, you need someone who will build programs and can be in it for the long haul. We can only assume Jennie has had offers before now and turned them all down. Personally, I think losing Caitlin Clark to Iowa because, as Clark put it she wanted to make consistent deep NCAA Tournament runs, really hurt and made Jennie think she couldn't go farther at Drake. I admire her sticking around last year to get through the pandemic. I'm sure we all thought, and maybe Jennie does to, she would end up at Iowa but as stated before that could be 10 years off and you can't sit at Drake and not advance waiting for one job. For Drake this is the right time for a change. We're in a rebuild period right now (even though we finished 2nd in conference) but we were bringing in 5 freshmen. Hopefully they all still come. 9/10 times the final coach ends up being no one on the first list from the media. I highly doubt another MVC coach would come to Drake....that's just too awkward. I wouldn't rule out an assistant at another Power 5 school. It is late though by 2021 standards to start a coaching search, even though this is when we started our last one.

The thing about Power 5 conferences is you don't have to win your conference championships. If Jennie can consistently make NCAA Tournaments and make the 2nd Round half the time, Sweet 16 every 3-5 years she'll be more than successful.
