Starting a new thread to keep track of the bubble this week, point out important games, etc.

Based off Lunardi's Bracketology, key things to watch this week:
  1. ACC Tournament: Louisville & Georgia Tech are on opposite sides of the bracket. Georgia Tech has a double bye to Thursday, Louisville & Syracuse will play Wednesday.
  2. Mountain West Tournament. The Mountain West has three teams (Colorado State, Boise State, and Utah State) all on the bubble in one way or another. All three will play starting on Thursday. Boise State plays Nevada in a 4/5 matchup that has the first appearances of a possible defeat in our favor.
  3. BIG EAST Tournament: Xavier has a 7/10 matchup against Butler on Wednesday night. A loss would put Xavier out. If Xavier wins they'll play Creighton on Thursday which seems like could be looked at similar to today's Drake-Loyola game. Seton Hall will have a 4/5 matchup on Thursday as well against St. John's.
  4. Atlantic 10 Tournament: Good news is Saint Louis is out and won't have the opportunity to raise their chances. Bad news is VCU gets a FULL WEEK to prepare for their championship game next Sunday to make their final case.
Looking like Thursday will be a big day in determining our hopes for an at-large. Obviously it's in our interest to root for 1 seeds in conference tournaments, no upsets, no bid steals, or other "madness" this week.

Here is the committee

http://www.ncaa.org/about/resources/media-center/mens-basketball-selections-101-committee

Reynolds can’t vote on Drake (same conference) but can be in the room (zoom room?. One interesting thing is that Thompson, as a conference rep, has to leave when they talk about his teams.

Is anyone catching the irony that all of the pundits are putting Drake into the tournament on Drake night?

Kind of a weird set up that the a10 does for their tournament. Wonder why they do it like that.

I think it would also help if Tank got cleared by doctors before Sunday. I think that would have a big boost for us.

I obviously believe we should be in. For those complaining about our non-conference schedule here is what I heard previously...

*Our tournament in the Bahamas was canceled because of covid/shortened season.
*The Air Force game was a return game from last season (i.e we had to play it or lose it).
*We were working on a possible return or neutral site game with Dayton, but they were unsure of how they were going to handle their non-conference (i.e. they canceled some other sports completely like football).
*The Big 10 at the time was only playing conference games in other sports. It was uncertain how they were going to handle basketball. Most of the Valley games against the Big 10 were scheduled after we already had our contracts signed. Of the 10 Power 5 schools in our geographic area - 6 are Big 10 schools.
*The remaining Power 5 are Kansas, Kansas Stare, Missouri, and Iowa State geographically. Kansas was not going to play us - not sure if Missouri would have agreed to play. We already know about the Big 4 schools.
*We were struggling to find a geographic tournament  - so we agreed to the Little Apple Classic at Kansas State which included Kansas State, Colorado, and South Datoka. Kansas State and Colorado wanted to play, so that left us with Kansas State and South Dakota.
*I believe the South Dakota and North Dakota games came with options of future return games (if both schools agreed to extend that option in the future outside of covid). Not sure about Omaha. Chicago State was a buy game.
*St Ambrose and Mckendree were buy games to fill our schedule. It was important to have a full schedule incase games were canceled. UNI also played St. Ambrose and they played Coe.
*We agreed to play any team in our geographic area if a game was canceled. None of our non-conference games were canceled. If one was we possibly could of picked up a Power 5 school.

Non-conference game contracts are complex in a non-covid year. I imagine they are even more detailed in a covid year (i.e with testing requirements, travel, etc.). Hopefully the committee will understand the difficulties of scheduling in the covid era.

We are now 47 in NET (falling 7 spots in loss to Loyola).

We were 42 going into Arch Madness, so making it to the final and still being in Top 50 should help.

Palm (not really that accurate but famous) still has Drake in this morning despite previously saying they had to win.

Granted, it’s the last spot so it’s a narrow path.

Also, the Little Apple Classic originally had South Dakota State, not South Dakota, who walked away from the games for another opportunity.  SD State has a Kenpom of 117.... South Dakota, which was already scheduled, is now 172.  Don't know if Drake would have won, but it would have been another Q2, not Q3

Why is the Mountain West getting so much love? Are they really that much better than the MVC?

With 25 wins on selection day, would not Drake have the most wins in NCAA history (not counting teams on probation) to be denied a tournament bid?  Don't think the committee wants to set a new precedent in this year's field.

I think someone had mentioned that before about the winningest team to not make the tournament.

I don’t think it is on the sheer number of wins, I think Belmont and maybe Murray State has gotten shafted a few times when they’ve had a lot of wins.

If you look at winning percentage though, they would probably be one of the highest win percentages to not make it to the NCAA tournament.

Monmouth had more a couple of years ago, the comparisons aren’t great with the shorter schedule though.

Looks like Utah State got left out at 25-3 back in 2004. Smaller field though.
