Official bracket...
MISSOURI STATE IS TOP SEED FOR 2021 MVC WBB TOURNAMENT

Official website...
Tournament Central

Can anyone upset Missouri State to make the Valley a 2 bid league?

The NCAA still has 64 teams while WNIT has been reduced from 64 to 32 teams. There is also a third tournament called the WBI which is still exploring its options.

The road for Drake isn't going to be easy. We're likely playing Valpo (close games), Illinois State (beat us twice), and Missouri State (beat us twice). I think it's Missouri State's event to lose.

Drake is currently 47 in NET which would put us in a good spot for a WNIT selection.

Without regard to the bracket and seedings I think the 3 most difficult matchups for us in the MVC are Missouri State, Illinois State, and Valpo.  Valpo has split with every team it has played except us and Missouri. State both of which it nearly beat.  Both Valpo's  offense and defense are unique and if they are hitting 3s they are a difficult team to beat   Unfortunately the way the bracket falls we likely will have to beat Valpo, Illinois State and Missouri State to win the tourney.  We should beat Valpo but it will not be easy.  Illinois State is a different story.  They are playing well and at best this game is probably a toss-up for us.  This game will be on a neutral floor so we will see but it will be a battle. Win that game and we probably play Missouri State and that is a game we can win if we bring our A game and Missouri State struggles offensively as they sometimes do.  Problem is they make so few turnovers, and get so many offensive rebounds that so far they have found a way to win even when not shooting well.
Illinois State because of their athleticism might be the toughest match-up for Missouri State.

The no fan deal is good for all the other teams, because the Bulldog fans show up to cheer at Moline .We always have enough fans to give our team a almost home court atmosphere but not with these crazy rules. Strange that the Taxslayer can have concerts shortly after our games but no fans spread out for basketball ?

Illinois government officials are extremely intelligent. .  Apparently they are aware of science that fans at basketball games spread COVID but fans at concerts don't..

Not sure what you mean by concerts....according to their calendar there is only one concert on April 9 that according to the artist's website (MercyMe) is cancelled. There are no other 2021 concerts still on according to their website calendar.

Great day of basketball!  We won and Illinois State lost!  If the 6, 7, & 8 seeds can play like they did today this should be a multiple bid league.  This league may not be a powerhouse but it is getting pretty darn good.  Hope they have better officials tomorrow.  The only halfway decent officiating was in the last game.  Hope some of the officials who have officiated in past few years are heading to Moline because it would be a shame to have games officiated by some of these clowns when the players are playing so hard.

So the other semi is off. Missouri State radio guy says rumor is Bradley had positives, league wanted to play, but MSU refused.

WBballFAN, are you telling us someone in Bradley's inner circle (Player, coach, trainer, mgr) tested positive and you, along with the MVC, recommend MSU play the game?

Are you kidding? So the league wanted to change the rules and make a team play a team with positive tests.  MSU refused because they do not want to be exposed to COVID heading into the NCAA tournament and not be able to play in the tournament. So apparently Bradley is the walkover winner and the winner of the Drake/ Loyola game will have to choose whether to play a COVID infected team.  If this is the scenario the MVC has made a mistake and will be ridiculed nationwide.  Apparently MSU's refusal to play Bradley meant that they had to pull out of the tourney.  I do not understand all ther rules but WBballFan you are really sick to take such a hateful view of everything.  Counseling for you might help.

Don't understand the complete 180 from last weeks men's tournament.  Suppose that means that either Bradley/ Drake/ Loyola will make the NCAA tourney unless the NCAA steps in and intervenes.  MVC is apparently trying to do damage control in regards to the situation.  Missouri State was apparently willing to play the Drake/ Loyola winner but had to forfeit the game as that was not an option.  Still no confirmed reports but Missouri State is reported to be on way back to Springfield.

Last week, the MVC might not have made the best choice when it came to UNI and Covid.  However, they owned up to it, debatably too much, with a press release.  Where was the statement from UNI explaining how the team was exposed?  Why wasn't there a statement from Northern supporting the rumor of a false positive?  Probably because there wasn't one.  Where is the explanation that somebody in the UNI bubble F'd up and exposed the team? Why isn't UNI responsible for testing positive?

WBballFAN, if I were to test you for humor, the result would be negative.
530,000 dead, millions out of work, unable to break bread.  Tell me, where is the comedy in that line?

WBballFAN, this is where I ask those responsible for this site to prevent you from posting.

Not sure what will happen but I think Bradley will probably be shamed into forfeiting tomorrow's game so I suspect the winner of our game today will get the automatic bid.  I really doubt that either we or Loyola will play Bradley under these circumstances.  What a black eye for the league.  Sick sense of humor is one thing but to joke about such a deadly disease is quite another.  All of these young ladies and teams  have sacrificed a lot.  I don't blame Missouri State.  There decision was easy in that they were already in the Big Dance but i suspect their decision would have been the same had they not been in.  I just don't think Coach Jen or Loyola's coach will risk their player's health for an NCAA berth.  The MVC has went silent.  Be interesting to see what is said on our game's broadcast.

MSU's beat writer basically saying that Missouri State has withdrawn. As a result they've redone the bracket, so Drake gets a bye to the championship game and Loyola/Bradley will play this afternoon to determine Drake's opponent.

I don't agree with this, Bradley caused the problems (okay COVID is no one's fault but still they had the positive test) so if MSU didn't want to play they shouldn't be allowed to continue playing someone else. If this is what happens then hopefully Bradley gets destroyed this afternoon and that's the end of that.

Now that some time has come to digest what's happened, on one hand MSU's decision is understandable. On the other hand they've absolutely damaged both this tournament and the NCAA Tournament (now that an at large has been taken away) with this decision. Unfortunately, and this isn't right either, the fact that this was the women's tournament and not the men's tournament means it's likely to get "swept under the rug" more than it should be.

There are some fans comparing this to what happened with UNI during Arch Madness and I don't think that's a straight apples-to-apples comparison. UNI continues to claim there were multiple negative tests after the positive one, which I'm not sure we'll ever know if that was true or not, and there was a lot more contacts identified. The bracket situation was also different given quarterfinal vs semifinal occurrence. There are others saying MSU should leave the conference over the MVC wanting them to play the game, but it should be noted the MVC procedure is exactly the same as the NCAA one for the NCAA Tournaments.

Long term, in the year+ of COVID, absolutely zero precedence should be taken from any decision this year. We won't know for at least 3 weeks what was correct and what wasn't. If you're upset about it, go get your vaccine (and if you're not upset about it go get your vaccine anyway) so it's a non-issue next year.
