The new year will tip-off with the start of conference play. Similar to the men, it's back-to-back games at the same site for all 18 games except for UNI which will be home-and-home.
We will start with Bradley, 2 PM on the 1st and Noon on the 2nd. Bradley went 4-3 in non-conference, with wins against Kansas City, Wright State, Northern Illinois, and Quincy. Losses came against Milwaukee, St. Louis, and South Dakota.
We split the games last year. Bradley was picked 2nd with 7 1st place votes in the pre-season poll. If we can win both games we'll already be exceeding preseason expectations.

The women need to begin playing some defense and cutting down on unforced turnovers.

See where Missouri State has COVID issues and that their UNI series has been postponed. Have to wonder whether there will be other such postponements as teams return from visiting family. I don't have a good feeling about this MVC season finishing particularly with so many teams being from Illinois Don't even think that Illinois is playing high school basketball this year

I don't have a good feeling about this MVC season finishing particularly with so many teams being from Illinois Don't even think that Illinois is playing high school basketball this year The men didn't send players home and played yesterday and today. Valpo men are also in COVID shutdown. The Big Ten played on Christmas. Frankly I think it would have made more sense to start a little earlier (last weekend) and leave a bye week for makeups if needed. Illinois is not playing high school basketball right now. The official statement is they have every intention of playing at somepoint this academic year. I think the NCAA is desperate enough not to lose another tournament (and associated revenue) that if there are only 64 teams left in March not in COVID protocol that's your 64 teams for the tournament.

Valpo has now shut down both their men & women's programs due to COVID.
As a result of being free, UNI & Illinois State will now have their series this weekend.

I imagine MVC will do some shifting around and move their two travel partner games to mid-week. Hard to imagine that MSU will get 18 conference games in or that other teams will not get hit at some point in year. Still would not be surprised if season ends early for everybody but i sure hope not. Meanwhile we have to take care of business against Evansville about the only team that is an absolute lock to finish in a specific spot in the MVC. They are embarrassingly bad, a lock for a 10th place finish.

A ton of schedule changes announced today: http://mvc-sports.com/news/2021/1/7/mens-basketball-mvc-announces-basketball-rescheduling-schedule-shifts.aspxMeanwhile, not a good start at Evansville.

Pretty disappointed in our play. UNI and Mo State are the likely top 2 teams, Illinois State and Valpo as the next two with Bradley and Drake fighting it out for the 5th spot..

Yeh, 10 TOs in 1st quarter. Horrible 1st quarter. Couldn't shoot, couldn't pass, couldn't dribble, couldn't think and with all that still managed to score 6 points in quarter 1. Did turn it around by getting to 33 at the half. Still some bad turnovers.

Missouri State is current set to resume next weekend which would be almost a month since they last played. Have to think there will be some rust from not playing in a month that could seriously impact them. It'll be something to watch. As for the games the conference did a bunch of shuffling on the men's side on Friday to allow teams to make up games not played and I wouldn't be surprised if they did the same on the women's side, especially since the women have an extra week to play with.

The Good: 50 point win for Drake over Indiana State
The Bad: Hannah Fuller is officially done for the season.
The Possibly Really Bad: Maddie Monahan went out in the 4th quarter after going down hard on her right knee. Keep your fingers crossed.
Side Note 1: Missouri State doesn't look too rusty, up 36-24 at half at UNI
Side Note 2: In the first conference tournament announcement I've seen anyway, Summit League announces no fans. Also, it originally was slated for the Denny Sanford Premier Center, which seats about 12,000, and now will be held at the 3,250-seat Sanford Pentagon. The Summit League has always combined their men's & women's tournaments at the same venue with both title games on the same day.

Great 3 quarters. i was beginning to wonder after the first 8 minutes or so but we got things turned around. Things will get tougher after this weekend as we get our two weakest opponents behind us, but you can't do any better than win the 4 games which it looks like we will do. Valpo sure made a statement today with their win at lliinois State and Mo State with a 19 point win at UNI. Apparently Mo State still had 2 or 3 players not dressed out per COVID protocols, including Manning, so the Rocca girl from Iowa City played some minutes and hit a big 3 to end the 3rd quarter. I just hope we can avoid a COVID delay. Poor Loyola has missed two weeks in a row of playing, because their scheduled opponents had COVID issues.

The radio broadcast had lots of good things to say about Valpo. If they live up to the hype should be a pair of highly competitive games.

The fears have come true: Maddie Monahan out for today and will be out for an extended period of time.

I haven’t watched any games this year, but why is a starter on the court in the fourth quarter of a fifty point game? Valid question. On one hand, with the two games back-to-back this year I think using the end of the first game in a blowout to practice/plan for game two is a good idea. We also sub players faster in-and-out and use the whole bench more than most other teams. However, I do see your point and I think the coaching staff did too today - by the 2nd quarter the underclassmen/non-starters were getting tons of playing time compared to the starters. They also played really well, depth certainly looked really good today. We had our two best games of the season yet this weekend earning two 50 point wins. However, the biggest test of the conference season comes next weekend at Missouri State.

We only have 11 available players and one of those was coming off a couple of weeks down due to injury. Everyone had to play significant minutes. I see we have 5 recruits signed for next year,
