I don't think so.  Not at Drake, anyway.  Nonetheless, I thought the following was interesting...

The Kansas City Chiefs will sell tickets for 22 percent of Arrowhead Stadium's seats this season.  If Drake similarly adjusted its stadium capacity, there would be enough room for 3,203 fans.

Drake's 2019 home attendance?  2,232.

In the unlikely event that Drake plays football before August 2021, the Bulldogs won't be able to blame their poor attendance on a virus.

Why would they not play Spring Football??

10.  COVID
9.  COVID
8. COVID
7.  Preseason camp starting the end of January?  In Iowa?
6.  COVID
5.  COVID
4.  Public health officials and President Martin will ignore pollyannish talk of Spring football, and will stick to the science.  They are in charge here.
3. COVID
2. COVID
1.  Football would interfere with spring break.

Ok then... so if the PFL moves forward with the season you think Drake will not play?? I'm guessing Covid will be a thing of the past come December or vaccine

It's not a question of whether Drake and the PFL will go separate ways.  A Spring football season is simply not realistic, imo, for any schools without the financial ability to create and maintain a "bubble" for three months.  No one in the PFL can do that.

There will be a significant difference between the (still unknown) date a vaccine gets FDA approval and the date vaccinations are available to the general public.  Probably a difference of months.

Also, consider polls that suggest a significant chunk of the population does not want to be vaccinated.  So much for creating quick herd immunity.

It's hard to imagine significant changes before next Summer.  These hints of spring football seem to be calculated to discourage players from leaving school.

From what I've read on the COVID vaccine candidates, they take about 28 days to reach maximum effectiveness.  But that's maybe 60-70 percent effective.  Not confidence inspiring for anyone who wants to rush out to play football.

After kids have breathed on each other for four months, the pandemic will probably be worse than it is now.  I think the best chance for football this school year would have been to start the season as scheduled, late Aug-early Sept.

Plus the fact that only 100MM does have been pre-purchased by the US government (w/ an option on 400MM more). The vaccine under development looks like it will require 2 does, 1 month apart for effectiveness. Even once a vaccine is approved, PFL football players will be a long way from the front of the line in allocating scarce vaccine. I don't think vaccine will play into the PFL picture this school year.

The players do not need a vaccine nor will many of them even get if they have the option...   If money is an issue to play in the spring how is that different than the fall? (other than your suggested bubble) which does not need to happen.... No schools are in bubbles... and if other schools play in the spring in FCS so should Drake/PF
Clearly the interests of the player/athletes/coaches are never considered... nor their freedom to decide....

.. No schools are in bubbles...
Power conferences get them into the closest thing to a bubble that the NCAA will allow (football dorms not permitted).  All of it costs money, including $100 per test, for lots of tests during a season.  Money is the issue, regardless of the season.

Maybe we should protest in St Louis. I expected more in Chicago at B10, but I guess it is not bad given their mayor is basically not letting anyone in the city.

B1G Jumped The Gun

If the rational is player safety it seems odd to play a true fall season in the spring and then play another full season 2 months later the following fall. To play in the fall or spring or not at all should be an athlete/parent decision (without pressure or penalty) not someone sitting behind a desk in St Louis or Chicago.

It sounds like the B10 may start fall sports Thanksgiving weekend. I wonder if the PFL/MVC have spoken about a start date for fall sports? Or if they are only trying to create an illusion of possibly playing so athletes do not transfer.

For football they are talking about using domes. Could Drake play their NDSU game and possibly UNI, then borrow the UNI Dome for home games? It would have been nice to have the new winter bubble on the new soccer stadium this year.

An interesting take on the B10...

From what I've heard, the Big Ten/Pac 12 had the expectation that once they cancelled, the other conferences would follow. That didn't happen. Now that games seem to be going off okay, it's damage control/recovery for conferences who cancelled while still giving an opportunity for them to show they were right if indeed they were.

As for the virus, getting back to normal, and games with fans, my personal take: It won't happen before Memorial Day Weekend 2021 at the absolute earliest. Personally I'm concerned about how fast we can manufacture/distribute, then there's the overwhelming number of people who don't want to get at first because they think it's been rushed and have safety concerns.

The PFL is rumored to be voting on whether to have a spring season (eight games) sometime the week of Oct 4th.  No idea where prez Martin stands.

Sports Spring playoff proposal in FCS

It appears the Missouri Valley Conference (including the MVC/PFL) is still allowing each school to play fall non-conference games in all sports. Missouri State has been playing non-conference games in fall sports although their womens soccer game was canceled on Sunday. Their men's golf team has the Zach Johnson Invitational on its schedule. Could Drake have some sports in the fall after all?

From the NCAA: "The FCS championship will be conducted from April 18 through May 15, with 16 instead of 24 teams."Teams can play up to eight regular season games over a 13-week span. The last regular season game cannot be played later than April 17.

If we have an 8-game season, first game would be Feb. 22.
