+x+xDogs need to recruit Lawrence H.S. in Kansas, which is currently unbeaten this season. Maybe Kieran Severa can share the secret password with his former coach. Drake football is following the Twitter account of the Chesty Lions' Cole Mondi. Looks promising to me. At the 11th hour, Kansas gave him a full ride. Congrats to him.

+xEllingson has started at Q.B. since a sophomore, although his season ended in his second game with a broken leg that year. Good speed, good arm, good in the clutch and good q.b. size and body. Good athlete......also, a starting guard on the basketball team. Looking for good things from him on the Drake gridiron. Here's what I wrote about Blake when he signed up. (See my post of a few minutes ago re Conor's game against Blake's team.)

Here's a slick production from Dartmouth football. I'd like to see Drake do something like this...as well as one showcasing the defensive coaches. https://spark.adobe.com/page/QmqH6bDrypXQf/

+x+xLooks like an excellent addition to the team. Waiting to read the full scouting report from dogs67... You want it, you got it. May be the fastest kid on the team next year. Plays both ways. But, here's what you can bank on.....this kid should be a starter his freshman year. A great get. Surprised he didn't get bigger offers.....size thing, I guess, but still doesn't make sense. In his first game of the season, today....275 yards and 5 touchdowns. Like I said....should be starting as a freshman next year.

Yes he is from south Elgin where I live. I might go watch him play. ‘ 67 just above mentioned 275 yards and 5 TD. That was on 10 carries From Article in paper sounds like nobody can catch him

Last night's game (March 27, 2021)....61 rushing yards and ran in 2 T.D.s in a 15-6 victory. There were no passing stats listed in the story. There have been no box scores this year in b-ball or football, as in past years. The paper (Daily Herald), must have cut back on staff since Covid. Some quotes from the game story recap: "He used to be a running back....grew 6 inches after 7th grade, and went from a running back to a quarterback (in 8th grade).. When he has to run, he slips back into that mentality seamlessly.....Lake Zurich switched up their defenses tonight and played cover-2 pretty much the entire game, so the passing just wasn't there, said Ellingson, who has been recruited to play quarterback at Drake next year....And when your quarterback can throw and run, that's one of the hardest things for a defense to do is to defend a quarterback who can also run, said Libertyville coach Mike Jones.....Lake Zurich coach Ron Planz said Ellingson threw the ball a lot more last year, and ran it more tonight. I thought our defense did awesome but Ellingson made some good plays."

Then there was the running back Drake recruited from Topeka, who used to be a QB. He transferred to a Christian college back in Kansas, where he's playing basketball.

It was a 62-0 romp. His individual yardage wasn't included in the recap (Illinois, maybe you'll pick it up somewhere), but 12 guys touched the ball, for a team total 269 yards. I checked out his hi-lites from last week's game on Max Preps. This kid is terrific!!

Didn't see a recap of the game in the paper, only that they lost 23-14, so no stats for Blake. I asked the grandkid this week if he knew Blake or saw him in the halls at school. He said he had a class with him. I asked him how was he, a sophomore, in a class with a senior. Turns out, it's some kind of sports marketing class. The grandkid said that Blake would come to the hockey games before fans were banned (the kid had 6 points in a shortened 9 game season....5 assists and one goal, starting on the first line. Not bad for a sophomore). He's talked with Blake a few times and said that he's a "chill" kid. Not cocky or anything. He said that Blake said he likes the campus and is excited to be going there, and will be majoring in finance.

Blake was 11 of 21 passes for 167 yards and 2 T.Ds. From his coach, " The first touchdown Blake threw, he was really under a lot of pressure, and he delivered a strike. He came to the sidelines and I told him, 'That was a big-boy throw.'"

Kind of slow on here, so I'm going to make one of my prognostications, which involves Blake Ellingson, the only q.b. coming in for 2021-22. I don't know how many of you are familiar with Northwestern's Riley Lees. Lees was probably in the top 5 of quarterbacks that I have seen in high school since I started going to high school games over 60 years ago, which includes an average of about 10 games a year over the past 30 +, which also includes seeing multiple state champs in that span, entailing Naperville Central, Glenbard West, Loyola and Stevenson. Lees was incredible. He was a dual threat every time he took a snap. He had 4,500 yards passing, 3,000+ yards rushing and accounted for over 100 touchdowns in his high school career. So, he gets a ride at Northwestern, and what happens? Fitzgerald turns him in to a special teams/receiver man. I have no idea if he even got a chance at Q.B. I was stunned. So, I started thinking about Blake, another amazing dual threat. Great passer, great runner (was a back until 8th grade, when they made him a q.b.) and total clutch. I'm thinking that with Corwin returning for 2 more years, will Stepsis do the same to Blake? With Blake's size (6'3") and athletic ability (he averaged over 10ppg starting on the basketball team), will he be converted to special teams and receiving? I know that most, not all, but most coaches are not crazy going the freshman route. All I can say at this point is, I hope not. Blake may be the best incoming q.b. we've had in a long time. I hope he at least gets a chance. I like Corwin, but to have Blake around for his first two years and not behind center would be a shame, let alone 4 years. I'm really apprehensive about it. Hope coach doesn't pull a Lees/Fitzgerald.

I wish i made it to watch Antioch's qb (Minnesota Commit) to compare him to blake. I believe Blake is a qb.

+xHope coach doesn't pull a Lees/Fitzgerald. After Drake burned through three quarterbacks in five games, I don't see BE changing positions. Corwin has been fragile so far.

Not a 2021 high school grad, but Drake has picked up Ruben Beltran III, a QB transferring from Montana State https://twitter.com/Ruben3Beltran/status/1397666702544969729

Looks like Beltran appeared in a couple of games in 2019. Speaking of Montana State, I wonder if Drake is still playing them. MSU slated Drake and San Diego for consecutive weeks this fall. That's going heavy on the non-scholarship teams. Did they replace the Bulldogs with a FBS payday? Could be the reason Drake's schedule announcement on Twitter was deleted. Buyout for the Drake-MSU game is $200,000, btw.
