In the Darnell Brodie thread on the recruiting board, one of our posters mentioned the possibility of their being no college basketball this coming season. While I think this is very valid discussion, I don't want that recruit's thread to go completely off topic, so I'll set this up here for discussion.
What are your thoughts about whether or not there will be college basketball in 2020-21?

I think it'll be business as usual but I'm not sure if I actually believe that.
If they implemented social distancing rules at the Knapp Center, things wouldn't be all that much different :D

But in all serious. The government seems hell bent on getting sports back. Which I want too, don’t get me wrong! Whether it’s right or wrong, we’ll have to see.
Because of that, I think it’ll be full season with no fans.

I guess I forgot about the possibility of doing it with no fans. I still think there's no chance that sports come back. All of these players interacting would be too much of a risk, even if there were no fans. Also, like others said, we'll either still be doing this or be doing this again.

Lord, I hope we can still have a season. I hadn't even really considered, though I've been mildly concerned about football...
Probably comes down to establishing a date at which practices start being allowed, and then giving everybody about a month from that date...and then...maybe jumping right into conference season????
Just DU it !

I'd be interested to hear from those of you that think it will be business as usual, which seems to be the majority of people at the moment. Unless it's just as simple as, "it will be completely over by then." But I don't really see how that's a possibility. From what I've been reading we wont be back to normal for a long time. In the article Hammy posted on the Brodie thread, Fauci has an idea of how to proceed with pro sports but it involves testing players weekly and monitoring them closely. If there is a season and it's without fans, I'd be OK with paying a pretty substantial subscription fee to Drake to make up for lost revenue considering how much I usually spend at the Knapp throughout the season.

You could screen for fever, you could require masks. As fast as pharma is running, there could be a treatment. They could find a prophylactic. Maybe they find away to speed a vaccine. Maybe we all say screw it.
Moving forward.....

If I was a betting man I'd go all in on nothing happening until there is a vaccine. In addition, I think many state gov and AD's (not that they have same power) will ultimately decide with how they want to precede. A team like Syracuse could just refuse it's participation in this year's sports since they are close to epicenter where as a state like Mississippi or Alabama is hell bent on watching 18 year-olds running with a ball for entertainment and do not care about the ramifications. Either way you look at it if we allow sports with fans with fans right now imo way too risky and if anyone gets sick and it will be PR disaster 10x. How can you rationalize a team like Clemson playing football for no money in order for TV providers to make money. If I'm athletes I protests if you are made to play. Positive note if gov decides to "bailout colleges" hopefully Drake invests in Knapp center even more.

Insider that's a really good point. It's one thing to test pro players and such as they are making hundreds of thousands of dollars. It's another to send kids out there that aren't getting paid and risking it. Vaccines just don't happen overnight. I think we will be lucky to get the kids back on campus in the Fall. Just my opinion.

On a side note what does this to lower tier sports at schools and or D3 schools? Hard to see the Wartburgs and Northwestern's (IA) of the world making it out of this imo only so much money to go around as there is no way they have cash reserves to be paying everybody.

Exactly right. The NCAA's path forward has to cover members from all divisions. How many hundreds of schools is that?
