Non-conference season is just about done.  Where do you see the 'dogs finishing this season?

Mid-pack. I have enough confidence in D Rock and staff to game plan for Valley teams to eek out 9-12 wins and get us to Friday. This squad’s offensive production is so lacking right now, I’m not sure where the floor or ceiling are.

If the offense comes around, middle of the pack.

If not, Thursday night.

I'm starting to think that if the offense hasn't come around by now, it just isn't going to happen.

Feels like a Phelps team....where you just know they can play a lot better than they have been, but there doesn't seem to be an offensive game plan.

After watching the last few games and the poor performances against decent/good competition, it appears Thursday is unavoidable.   I hope I am wrong.   There needs to be major changes to turn things around.

The problem is what do you change.  Liam stays in the game yesterday, we stay in the game.  You're certainly not going to bench him.  You could go to zone defense to protect him, but then that negates generally pretty good on the ball defense.  The fact is we really don't have reliable shooters.  If we can't shoot the three, we're not going to get much inside.  If you can't keep Liam on the floor, you're not going to get open threes.  The team is not balanced.  If one of the twins are down, we are really really small.  Some would say you don't need size if you have athleticism.  We don't have size and we don't have much athleticism outside of the twins.  We are getting out rebounded most every game.  You can't really run without rebounding.  We don't have a player who has come forward as the guy that can put the team on his back for a burst when we need a burst.  Offensively, we don't look confident, likely because of poor shooting.  We're passing up good shots, using up the clock and forcing bad shots.  We will not match up with long and athletic teams like Dayton and Cincinnati.  Even  bad teams who are long and athletic give us problems.  If Ferguson hadn't been hurt, I pretty sure he would have contributed this year because he's long and has some offense.  If Ernst was healthy, he might contribute more. I expected the team to be better than they are, but there have been some bumps in the road this year that were unexpected and unpredictable.  Recruiting will be the key to the future.

Moving forward.....

I predict drake is gonna finished 6 or below. I thought this season this team will improve to first place but the way we are playing I think this team will not be the conference tournament winner this year. Since we lost to Cincinnati and Dayton I don’t think we can matchup very well with athletic team. The problem with this team is that we don’t rim protector and shot blocker. The team lacks chemistry and leadership on the floor. The team also lacks contributors on the bench which will also be an issue when it comes conference play. I hope next season we will good recruits.

I don't think being able to keep Liam in the game yesterday would have made any difference.  I'm pretty sure he was in there when Dayton blew the game wide open early in the second half.  But, I do agree, Drake needs to have him on the court 30 minutes per game.
His foul problems yesterday weren't on the defensive end; but on illegal screens (2 of them in the first half)

There's a lot of problems with this team, but I don't think that's high on the list.  This year's team is averaging about 3.5 blocks per game, last year's team 3.8.  Not much difference there.  If anything, I think this season's defense might be better than last season's.  Rebounding is definitely a weakness this year.

There are a whole lot of issues on offense right now.

I thought it was interesting that when Marty Richter was interviewed prior to the game he said they had focused on defense since the last game. I have not noticed any glaring problems with the defense other than allowing a lot of easy passes and layups right under the basket. the glaring problem is no offense. I thought last year we ran some really good set plays. I don't see it this year. We get a ton of passes picked off this year, which we did not see last year. We are pretty far into the season to have no detectable offensive scheme. why so much standing. Were McGlynn, Ellingson and Norton just doing that stuff on their own? There does not appear to be any leadership on the court and as many have pointed out, nobody wants to take the shot. Befote last season Devries said to me that Penn being eligible would be worth 5 or 6 victories. Clearly he was planning on Norton playing point, so he must have pictured Penn as the starting 2 guard. I have seen no evidence of him being able to find the open man. I think I would try Yesufu at point and  Penn at the two. I would also tell Sturtz to shoot from three as he is never going to be the player he should be unless he starts launching some shots.

We may be no good, but the MVC is godawful this year (except for UNI). We can still be middle of the pack with no offense. It just won't be a pretty middle of the pack.

If you have no inside game, you have no outside game.  If you have no outside game, you have no inside game.  Simple as that.  Basic basketball strategy.

Moving forward.....

Probably in the middle. UNI is the only team that has been outstanding in pre-season. Bradley and Evansville have had some impressive games so I'd rank them 2nd and 3rd. After that it's wide open but, with the confidence I have in our coaches and players, I'd pick the Bulldogs 4th or 5th.

100% agree. I think we're also struggling from a lack of confidence in our 3 point shooting. We do get good looks the first half of each game and they don't go in. Jackson and DJ have to start seeing the ball go in.

Lack of confidence isn't just from three.  As mentioned earlier, only three players are above 70% from the free throw line.  That speaks volumes to the rest of the offense.  If this team doesn't improve at the line, they will come up on the losing end in every close game (which is expected in Valley play).

I have absolutely no idea where this team is headed.  Our record is decent but we have struggled at home barely beating the likes of Milwaukee and SE Missouri State.  It looks to me (and I'm totally spitballing here) that we aren't even nearly the same team from last year and I'm blaming a lot of it on the Tremell episode and also not sure if Wilkins is fully back and confident from his injury.  After Norton went down last year I thought the season was done and we still had a great season.  Obviously McGlynn was a beast and Ellingson is looking more and more underappreciated, as he hit a lot of shots late in the shot clock.  However, I kind of thought w/the addition of Penn, who by many accounts was our best player in practice, that he would just jump in and kind of lead us like Norton.  I think Tremell being hurt, then the stupid gun incident, has really really hurt us.  At the end of the season last year he was one of the best players in the conference, and Wilkins was huge as well.  The way we could score the basketball last year I never saw this coming at all.  I wouldn't say we are unathletic, but we are very small, and now it's kind of on DeVries to try and put this back together.  At this point I could see us landing anywhere from 3rd to 9th place.  Doesn't look promising, but again, it didn't look promising when Norton went down last year.  Hoping we can figure some things out before conference.

I'm getting a sneaking suspicion that the lack of offense is not going to improve. I feel like I've seen this movie before...

Jonah Jackson in the lineup would at least give us an offensive weapon.

I'm not ready to panic yet. The offense has been awful but our full starting lineup still has only been able to play together for 5 games this year. After last season you have to trust that Devries will be able to adapt to the roster and get us playing well again.
