Just to be clear: There was no “purchase” - Disney has owned ESPN since 1996. It has owned part of Hulu since 2009 but just recently gained 60% control through other acquisitions. The deal is coming with the launch of Disney+.
All and all the three services for $12.99 is great deal and same price for Netflix standard. Just in time too - I only got ESPN+ right at the start of basketball season since they didn’t have much football programming last year so the renewal will line up perfectly.
I would say for games I didn’t go to in person about 2/3rds to 3/4ths were on ESPN+. I would plan on the trend being to have more and more games on ESPN+ for the foreseeable future. MVC telecasts are exactly the type of content ESPN wants on ESPN+. ESPN3 is slowly by surly going away entirely and being replaced by ESPN+.
My guess for 2019-20 MVC games is 2-3 on MVC TV (FS Midwest, NBC Sports Chicago, etc.), one on NBC Sports Chicago (game at Loyola if it doesn’t get picked up for the MVC TV package), and the remaining conference games all on ESPN+. All home non-conference games should also be on ESPN+, away games are dependent on their TV deals. (Dayton has a deal with Spectrum, that could make its way to ESPN+ for us, Gulf Coast Showcase has a different streaming deal just for the event.)
The women had their entire conference tournament moved to ESPN+ Last season along with 90% of their conference games. I think each team may have gotten one game on ESPN3.
If you don’t want the $12.99 deal you can pay $4.95 a month or if you sign up for a full year you get a month free.
