Excited to see how coach schedules us for next year. I think we’re pretty wide open for now? No Big 4, no conference challenge, and I don’t think I’ve seen us connected to a holiday tournament yet.
Do we have any return games from this year? I think Colorado was a buy game but other than that: does UMKC and UWM come here? Are we going to Texas State?

I think at one time D was scheduled to play again in Fort Myers but they wanted to get out of that. Looks like they did based on Distance's link. I heard rumblings of playing in California around T-giving. Given the list of teams allocated to tournaments (or more notably, which teams aren't allocated to tournaments) it seems this is still technically possible.

I did seem a little weird they hadn't committed to anything yet. Seems like those are planned pretty far in advance.

If they played in the Las Vegas Invitational as an "away team" their 2 away games would most likely be Iowa and Creighton with 2 easier games in Vegas. That could be interesting ☺

I really really enjoyed the Fort Myers tournament. Pretty interesting teams. Food, lodging, shopping all near by. Close to Sanibel-Captiva which is a cool place in my book.

Pick a bottom of the barrel Big 12, Big 10, or SEC team; take the money to travel; beat their butts on their own floor; while running out the backdoor with their cash! I'd love to see a 76-69 Drake victory over Mizzou in Columbia next Fall.
Are you talkin to me?

It looks like UMKC and UWM are possibly return games to DSM. We did not play them the prior year and I'm pretty sure they were not buy games. Texas State may have been a game Drake bought, but I could not find anything.
In a 13 game non-conference schedule the goal should be to play around 7 teams from each of top 10 to 12 conferences. Not sure how the stupid NET rankings work, but generally good teams from a variety of conferences improve rankings better than multiple good teams from 1 conference (i.e. because they will all play different teams throughout the year). If every team in the Valley does this it will improve our conferences overall ratings.
In an ideal world Drake would... *Go to a tournament to play 1 or 2 Power 5 and 1 or 2 good non Power 5 teams at neutral site (3 total games) *Find a way to work things out with Iowa and Iowa State (which probably will not happen without lawsuit help or until Fran leaves) *Schedule home and away with DePaul again or use our connections to play either Marquette or Creighton *Find an A10, Mountain West, and West Coast school who would be willing to play 2 year home and away series *Schedule 4 other home games that are winnable, but will not kill the rankings
This probably will be difficult because dollars get in the way. A 9-4 or 8-5 record and 12+ win Valley record like this year should improve our NET rankings - assuming the NET rankings have legit formulas.

You'll have to explain to me how a lawsuit would force Iowa or Iowa State to play Drake.

there was an Iowa state senator talking about such a bill but he has actually since resigned. https://whotv.com/2018/12/19/iowa-lawmaker-plans-bill-to-force-big-4-into-playing-annually/It's silly talk partly rooted in a myth that the legislature forced Iowa and Iowa State to play in football back in the 1970s (they didn't).

Yeah I certainly don’t want to play the big schools if they are forced to.

I think it makes a ton of sense for Iowa to schedule a yearly game in Wells Fargo Arena, but I think the opponent for that game is far more likely to be someone like Creighton as opposed to playing us.

I know the challenge is over but is there any chance we get a return at Boise State?

I guess we could but it’s probably not much more likely than anything else.

Drake football plays Nov 16 home against Dayton and Nov 23 @ Davidson (might be too close to T-giving tournament) Would love to see Drake play football in the morning/Day and a 7:30pm game against the Flyers. Return it the following year.

Wright State will have redshirt senior Billy Wampler and 6'9 Loudon Love, each averaged about 15 a game. Tied for first with Northern Kentucky at 13-5 in the Horizon and 21-14 overall. Lost at Clemson in the first round of the NIT.
Miami of Ohio has former Drake Asst Coach Jeff Rutter. Finished 7-11 in the Mid-American (Buffalo, Toledeo and Bowling Green all had good seasons) and 15-17 overall. Three of the returning top players will be juniors, and will have a different point guard.
Northeastern was crushed by Kansas in the first round of the NCAA tournament. They have three top players returning as seniors, but lost Donnell Gresham to transfer (Georgia). The Huskies finished 23-11 overall, and 14-4 (2nd) in the CAA. They won the conference tournament defeating a very good Hofstra team.
Weber St. out of the Big Sky finished 11-9, 18-15 in conference. They've got three starting guards returning, including Jerrick Harding (21.4 a game) and Cody John (14.8), but lost both starting bigs to graduation.
South Alabama out of the Sun Belt finished 17-17 and 8-10 in conference. Top two scorers return.
