First, I want to congratulate the Drake women’s basketball team, Jeannie and her staff, for another outstanding year.   I’m proud of what this team does on the court, in the classroom and in the community.  Thank you!!

Now that the team, and the community has had time to celebrate the invite, let's be honest.  THIS TEAM GOT SCREWED!!!!!  The 10 seed handed out by the money grabbing NCAA and Power 5 conferences, is a disgrace.  It’s time Athletic Director Brian Hardin call out the NCAA committee for the under the table greed that takes place year after year.  What can it hurt?  So, the committee will do it again next year.

Going in to the final week, Drake was ranked 21st, with a 16 RPI.  With a SOS of 64, a 26-6 record, with wins over  #41 South Dakota,  #29 (N) Rutgers, #17 (N) South Carolina, #95 @ Nebraska,  @#94 Creighton, and competitive losses, @27 SD STATE, #11 Iowa State #7 Iowa, two losses to #52 SWMS, and #1 Notre Dame, a 10 seed is inconceivable.

There isn’t a team in the country, men or women, who might have a bad outing.
Yep, Drake didn’t play well in the MVC Championship game.  The “experts”, prior to the championship, had Drake getting a 5-7 seed for this body of work.  One bad game, and they fall 3-5 lines?  What a joke!!!!!
In the Men’s bracket, Gonzaga lost their championship game by 13 to a team they defeated the week before, on the road, by 14.  Tennessee, who was being considered for a one seed, lost to Auburn by 18, after losing to the Tigers the previous week by four on the road.  Did Gonzaga drop 3-5 lines?  No, they were awarded for their body of work and remained a one seed.  Did the Volunteers drop 3-5 lines after losing two of their last four games?  No, the committee kept them on the two line.
How could Drake, who finished 3-4 against teams ranked in the top 27, and two losses to in conference Missouri State, ranked 52 (Drake defeated them at the end of the regular season on the road in Springfield by nine.), receive a 10 seed?
Let's look at the seven seeds:
Texas, RPI 28,  one quality win over Iowa State early in the year, lost to them at home late in the year.
Missouri, RPI 31, three quality wins… seven in the top 100.
BYU, RPI 26,  three quality wins, all against Gonzaga… five total wins against top 100.  Plus, a loss to Southern Utah ranked 271.
Rutgers, 29 PRI, who Drake defeated on a neutral court, one top 20 win and just four against the top 100.

The MVC is ranked 13th out of 32 conferences.  Let’s be generous and say, of the 19 inferior conferences, six teams might be as good as Drake.  Including Drake's spot, that leaves 50 spots to go to the dance.  Are you telling me Drake didn’t prove...:

On a neutral court, Drake defeated four seed South Carolina.
On a neutral court, Drake defeated seven Rutgers.
Home, Drake defeated eight seed South Dakota.
Home, Drake was tied with 8 minutes remaining against number two seed Iowa.
@ Iowa State, Drake was tied 79-79 with 1:24 remaining against the three seed Cyclones.
@ South Dakota St., Drake was don by one with four minutes remaining.

… they aren’t better than 10 of the remaining teams?

The Bulldog’s body of work proves they are a top 25 team, which would make them a six seed, or better.  Seven if you were going to shame the women for not being in a power conference, which the committee has clearly done by placing them on the 10 line.

I hope this Drake team digs deep!  Not just win in the first round, over the Power 5 Conference Tigers, but destroy them!!!  Play with the fun you have displayed the entire year.  Find joy in mutilating these NCAA privileged programs.  Then win the hearts of the Iowa fans and take down the Hawkeyes.

GO 'DOGS!!!

Hardin echo'd those comments on Twitter, but a couple things to note:
1. We went 3-6 in quadrant 1 games. Q1 is Home 1-30, Neutral 1-50, Away 1-75. Two of those wins were against teams working through serious injuries, and the third was against a team who also beat us twice (Missouri State).
2. The committee chair woman stressed performance in final games in her interview.
3. Especially for non-conference games, the committee usually looks at who won and who didn't and that's it.

Agree that we should be higher, but the resume didn't match up. Winning either the Iowa or Iowa State games probably would have gotten us up to the 7. That said, I'll trade seed lines for location any day. Call the Iowa City placement "a gift" for a seed misplacement.

Disagree that the resume didn't match up, but it is what it is. We just know now that we either have an amazing non-con or we don't get in, simple as that.

Drake is currently listed as a 2.5 point underdog to Missouri.

Of note, Iowa is a 27.5 point favorite over Mercer.

I just want to wish you luck in your game with Mizzou.  I know you can beat them and do the Valley proud.  I think you have a great team that I personally am glad the LadyBears don't have to play a fourth time.  We had to play really focused basketball to try to take away some of your many strengths to win the two games we were able to win.  You are the best passing team we faced all year and your combination of being able to hit such a high percentage of 3s and pass inside for layups is very difficult to defend.  Plus you hit a very high percentage of your free throws.  I expect you to be able to score a lot against Mizzou.  I think your challenge against them will be to play good team defense and block out well on the boards.  In our pre-conference game with them we only lost to them by 4 points and we were at a point where all of our freshmen had not really settled into their roles especially defensively.  So I know you can beat them . . . and I know having played Iowa already, you know you can beat them as well.  I have great respect for your players, your coach and the system she has implemented at Drake.  I look for many great games with you next year as I know you have some really great players you are adding to all the elite players you have returning.  We too have some really talented players that we will be adding to all the freshmen and sophmores we had this year.  Next year should be fun.  But until then I just want you to know that there are many of us LadyBear fans that appreciate good basketball and Drake is a very good basketball team.  I, for one, will be watching the game tomorrow and rooting for you.

Thank you LadyBear Fan.  Best of Luck to your Lady Bears against DePaul.  Seeing how your underclasswomen have developed, you should all be excited about the future of your program.  With respect for each other's players and coaches, I expect some great battles between the two teams next year.    I'm not one to predict.  However, I do believe Drake and Missouri State have an opportunity to show the NCAA that the Valley deserves some respect.  One possession at a time! The Bulldogs will find success if they go out and play with the fun and freedom they have played with in the past, and bring intense TEAM defense.  The Lady Bears have an outstanding team, and can advance if they play with the confidence of upperclasswomen.  Rooting for the Lady Bears to defeat DePaul and Iowa State....Go Valley!!!

Thanks Hamlox.  If we play with the same intensity that we played in the conference tournament, I think we can defeat DePaul.  However we have a lot of new players that might be intimidated about playing on the big stage.  We will see.  But, you have a lot of experienced veteran players and you have the confidence level, having beat so many really good teams in the non conf. games, to know you can beat Mizzou and I know you want a rematch with Iowa.  I wish you all the best.  You have a great shot at getting to the sweet sixteen round.

Comments on game.......
1. It was so nice of ESPN to use the Missouri feed
2. I am now referring to sliced bread as Sophie Cunningham
3. Since when do the officials refuse to review a elbow to head especially with a minute left in OT and there was a dead ball
4. The call on Becca at end of OT was Horrible!!!!

Absolutely devastating!  I really feel your pain.  I thought you had this one.  You had defended them so well on Mizzou's last possession.in overtime.  If Becca wouldn't have fouled her it would have been a tough shot for her to hit at the buzzer.  If they don't score on that last play, with their two main players out of the game, you would have easily won in the second overtime.  Even with how things played out you got an incredibly open shot for Hittner with less than a second on the clock.  It would have been an amazing ending if she would have hit it.  You played hard and deserved to win the game.  There were some really questionable calls that made things tough as well.  Congratulations on a great season.  I look forward to some great battles with your team next year.

Two elbows by Cunningham to face of Dean in game and believe me they were not accidental. Cumingham does some old crap game after game which is why she is probably most hated girl in college basketball by opponents.  She is a drop dead gorgeous girl who is nasty dirty basketball player.  When she gets in WNBA don't think players will take that crap off her. Think Hittner probably did foul shooter but it was not so blatant and in that game situation refs should have let it go just as they did on foul against Rhine at end of overtime
