The run for a third straight 21-0 Valley Season beings January 4th at Bradley.

Before then, here's RPI standings through games on Dec. 23:

13 - Drake
67 - UNI
118 - Bradley
126 - Southern Illinois
165 - Missouri State
167- Indiana State
240 - Loyola Chicago
247 - Illinois State
304 - Valparaiso
348 - Evansville

There are 351 teams in NCAA Division I Women's Basketball.

We haven't had any updated women's bracketology since Dec. 3. If they followed strictly RPI we would be the first 4 seed and host. Unfortunately these three losses combined with being a mid-major we'll be lucky if we get a neutral first-round game.

+1 Maybe, pathetically, they'll get a repeat of last year and get a 10 seed and face the seven on their home court.

8-4 is still a very good record, especially when you consider the RPI and the fact that they played most of their non-conference away from Des Moines. Played seven teams that made it to the NCAA Tournament last year, including the previous two champions. The tough thing about the last three games is that Drake had a very good chance to win in each of them. But those games will help them for the upcoming Valley season for sure.

RPI through games on 12/30:
10 Drake
74 UNI
121 Southern Illinois
138 Bradley
151 Missouri State
170 Indiana State
194 Illinois State
253 Loyola
307 Valpo
348 Evansville

A road win against a team in the Top 75 of RPI is usually looked upon very favorably by the committee in terms of selection and seeding. If UNI can stay inside the top 75 and we win in Cedar Falls (and at home too obviously) that would help greatly and could help counter one of the December losses.

Bracketology:

High Post Hoops puts Drake as a 4 seed. Top 4 seeds host.

ESPNW puts Drake as an 8 seed. Bad part about being an 8/9 seed is you play one seed higher/lower so you have a very evenly matched & challenging first round game (at least on paper) and then 99.9% chance you play a 1 seed in round 2.
