Total speculation here...

He wasn't fired, but I'm not convinced Brian Hardin was super enthusiastic about renewing Fox's contract (will assume he finished a five-yr agreement).  Hardin might prefer his own guy ... for whatever reason.

Highs: recruited high character student-athletes; fostered sense of loyalty; winning streak v. Dayton; memorable performance in Ames.

Lows:  no outright PFL championship; inconsistent offense; poor early season preparation; overagressive scheduling.

I certainly wish coach Fox the best.

The man is in his early/mid 50s. He has one kid of college age, another about to be in a year or two, and a third  child after that. I can't imagine that he would just throw caution to the wind like this. There must be more to it. Perhaps Lurking's comments are not far off.
Good luck to him. Perhaps he will end up back at Wheaton in some capacity.

He'll coach again, and probably at at a higher salary.

Best wishes to coach Fox and his family. I always enjoyed visiting with the Fox family at Drake events.  I really hope this is a personal choice and Drake did not force him out.

I heard coach Fox state he preferred to coach at an institution without scholarships. Could Drake have found a way to re-add scholarships? Most likely no, but one can dream.

Subsequent reporting doesn't support my theory.  On the other hand, if Fox had been offered a contract extension at mid-season, what would the situation be today?

All the interviews with Fox yesterday indicated that this was 100% his decision.

He said that he first mentioned the possibility to Hardin after the Marist game, and that it's something he's actually been thinking about for 5 years.

Perhaps he will end up back at Wheaton in some capacity.

I don't know whether he feels a calling to return to Chicago and coach one of Wheaton's rivals.  But North Park University is looking for a head coach.  Evangelical school on the north side.

My brother got his Master's from North Park, and is on some kind of board for the school's business school.
