the men lost at home to Oral Roberts in OT to start the season but just won at #9 Butler, 2–1 with two goals in the last 10 minutes. They have a bunch of D1 transfers this year so maybe they'll be improved and just take time to gel.

the women are 1–3 after a pair of 1–0 losses to K-State and So Dakota State. They split some games out in Montana opening weekend.

Men just won 3–0 at UMKC. Play DePaul at Cownie on Friday...although they moved last wwek’s game to Valley, and it’s rained or forecast to rain every day since then.

Drake beat #23 Tulsa, 2-1 in overtime.  3rd win over a ranked team this season for the Bulldogs.

If they could just beat the unranked teams they’d probably be ranked themselves.

Between the men and women they've had three games moved and one game cancelled outright. Wettest fall I can remember, but Cownie is just not a good option for a D1 school.

Does the soccer team EVER play at the stadium? I’m obviously way out of the loop here but I never understood why they have to play out there.

The stadium is not large enough for a regulation soccer field.

Drake could really use an on campus facility.  At this point I'm sure there's not enough money to go ahead an build something, but playing at Cownie in front of 100 fans can't be very exciting for recruits.  I also get as a non revenue sport it's probably not a needle mover, but would really be nice.  Look at Creighton.  I feel like we are always saying that.  They continue to be one ( being nice) step ahead of us it seems.  Even a school like UMKC has a very nice on campus facility.  Loyola has a nice one as well, as does St. Louis.  These are schools that we are competing with for players.

What is different about Drake Stadium that makes it’s field too small for soccer? I feel like most schools (high schools atleast) are able to use their football fields for soccer.

Seems irresponsible to not make the stadium soccer friendly. UNLESS it would interfere with something for the Relays, then that makes sense.

Playing on turf instead of real grass has to play into it on some level. Ball probably moves very differently across turf than it does across grass. And all that sliding around sounds absolutely terrible on turf. Gotta have turf burn everywhere when you're wearing shorts and a tee. I feel like some teams do play in their football stadiums (Butler perhaps?) but it probably isn't widespread for a reason.

I played soccer in high school - You're right that we play in Football stadiums alot, but those fields were always smaller than the regulation fields we played on.

We actually hated playing in football stadiums because of A) the size and b) alot of football fields aren't completely level so that rain water will roll off better - not ideal for soccer.

Also regarding the turf comments someone made - There's a big debate in soccer about using turf fields - particularly that they may be carcinogenic and they often cause more injuries - the Women's World Cup made a huge deal about it a couple years ago. The ball also bounces quite differently.

USMT never plays on turf (I think).

Someone compared us to the blue jays and they play on turf.

Yup, about 99% sure thats correct - that was the big contention the women's world cup teams had - that the Men never have to play on it but the Women were forced to.

Stadium field is pretty narrow because of the track. They’ve used two different Valley fields for alternatives, both of them are turf.

It has nothing to do with turf. they practice on the football field all the time. It is just that the size is too small for an official game. They play some exhibitions there.

the women finished 5–1–1 (8–8–1 overall). 2nd in the MVC to Loyola. They play #6 Evansville on Friday at 3:30 PM on ESPN+, Sunday they would play Loyola/Illinois State with a win.

offense for the men has dried up in conference play. 1–2–2. looks like they could get anywhere from #3 to #6 for the tournament. They could also still miss it.

Steven Enna, who played the last 5 seasons (redshirt) on the men's soccer team, is turning pro with a 2nd-division team in Denmark.
