Given his history with Dave Doeren...and Dave's KU background...hiring Doeren is the obvious choice.

But probably not happening, for obvious reasons.  Less obvious is Doeren's new contract, with a pricier buyout than last year.

Yes, the preceeding post employs Jedi mind control techniques on the KU athletic dept.   It's obvious, really.

...and the wheels are rolling.  KU has announced that its coach will not be retained for 2019.

This column rates Doeren the #2 choice for KU, behind Les Miles.  However, I doubt Miles (age 65) is their man.  The KC Star reported that Doeren "badly wanted" the KU job last time it was open.  I'm not sure Dave wants to butt heads with Clemson every year.  Plus, he and his wife are from the KC area.

Chris C. , coach of 5-5 Eastern Michigan, appears at the end of the candidate list.  Who said sportswriters lack a of sense of humor?

Miles was indeed their man.  However three years later, Kansas City media is hammering KU over sexual harrassment claims against the coach, stemming from conduct that allegedly occurred during his time at LSU.

And, in case you haven't noticed, Jayhawk football has continued to lose a lot of games.  I don't foresee Miles staying on much longer.

Will be interesting to see if Doeren's name comes up again.

Fittingly, the school is also replacing the athletic director who hired Miles.

Edit:  there will be an interim head coach for now.  Considering KU will take weeks to find a new AD, it looks like any serious attempt at hiring a permanent coach will have to wait until after the fall '21 season.

Lance Leipold has been hired as KU's new head coaxh.  Doeren was not a candidate.
