Now that we know most of the roster, and most other MVC teams have finalized their rosters.....where do you see the Bulldogs finishing this coming season?

+xNow that we know most of the roster, and most other MVC teams have finalized their rosters.....where do you see the Bulldogs finishing this coming season? I think the Bulldogs will finish 4-6 and I believe they will be much better than last year, but I believe the conference will be much better as well.

I think it will be interesting to see Nick lead the team and hopefully he will improve even more over the summer as he did last year. Nick scoring inside could really be a huge plus. Maybe a key will be how the new point guard will work with Nick. I believe in the Valley it almost comes down to who has the most "informed" and "players that can execute through high basketball IQ". The other big need is scorers. Reed hit over 40% from 3 and could drive to the basket, thus became the all-time scorer. Hopefully some of the guys coming in will step up instantly. I am pretty excited about this Juco coach as he obviously can put something together. If several people step up and score I think if Bulldogs could finish in the upper half of the conference.

Most MVC teams are going to be better than they were last year. The MVC fans board seems to have us consistently in the bottom two.
I don't necessarily agree with bottom two, but I understand why we are there... we only return 18% of our minutes, 20% of our scoring, and one starter. We lost our all time leading scorer. We have a new coach after the previous coach outperformed expectations.
I like what I see from this staff and the potential of the players, but I have no idea what my expectations should be.
In this first year, I'd be happy with a competitive team in the middle of the pack.

I put middle of the pack. But no one has any real clue how this team will finish next year. Way too many unknowns.

Agreed, lawdog. Especially since I’m not as versed as to what other Valley teams are looking like this year.

Getting out of Thursday night for the first time in forever took a huge effort, and to expect to avoid Thursday night two years in a row seems silly. We'll be in the bottom four, but not as bad as many were expecting us to be a few months ago.

Senior PG, Senior Center, Juco All American forward, brother about as good, Thomas, Ellingson, Wilkins and Penn...The MVC might have gotten better but so have we. We will be middle of the pack with maybe a surprise or two. We have more talent than we've had in a long time. New coach that the league hasn't seen will mean a few early wins. I like our chances.
Moving forward.....

Agree with Dawg. Solid, experienced guard court. Solid wings. Solid post. Experienced smart coach. Cant put the team on a Thursday night. Illinois State and Loyola at the top. Then comes Bradley...Dogs fight it out for the next spot. Cant get too excited about the others....maybe Southern Illinois will surprise me. Would like more depth behind Nick, maybe a surprise from Pilopovic or another last minute recruit? Cj Rivers held up pretty well last year at the 4, hope we can improve on that. Lots of new faces in the Valley.

If Loyola can get that lit ... anything can happen this coming season with the Bulldogs. Drake has a great chance of being the best team in the state. It's going to boil down to toughness and execution. Clocks tick'n and DawgTired is cocktail'n. GO DOGS! Situation Critical.

SIU finished 2nd last year, and has all 5 starters returning and they will also add Thik Bol who was expected to be their best player last season, but missed the entire season with injury. Most everybody has the 4 Illinois schools in the top 4.....hard to argue with that. After that, it's pretty wide open. I like what DeVries has done, but still not sure the 'dogs have the depth to be a contender. Still hoping DD can add two more players, preferably 6'6" + and athletic.

I put middle of the pack but I can see anywhere from 4th to 10th. As others have mentioned, way too many unknowns. Loyola and SIU will likely be good, but I'd like to think we're in the same ballpark as everyone else.

You know better than I! I don’t think southern Illinois has has strong a guard court has Drake. And Smithpeters is gone. Bol is good, give you that. Maybe i put too much stock on the guards? I think ours are as good as anyones in the Valley this year. By that measure maybe UNI with Green, Pickford and Berhow should be my pick? Not many great back courts in the Valley so we match up well in most situations i think.

Most Valley predictions are the same year after year. No matter where we finish top or bottom we always seem to play Bradley in St. Louis. Illinois State never seems to win the championship in St Louis. A lot of "pickers" picked Mo State last year with their "Pro" player and we saw where that went. How long can UNI continue to play slow plodding basketball? It always seems to work against the Bulldogs at UNI, a situation that needs to change. Loyola had a dang good team, and a lot of new support, which I believe they will keep going. I think SIU will be good again next year. With out any real logic it seems every year for as long as I can remember we play Bradley to a point or two. Lawdog's right we don't know what will happen, but we do know about Nick and we know what we saw of Noah. My gut feeling is the coach hired is getting the chance, and I believe he will do everything possible to make it work out. I have never seen these Juco guys (players and Coach) from Florida play or coach but I don't believe it was luck they did so well. Just maybe this mix of players and coaches will want to win bad enough and prove what they can do, maybe they will get it done.

I think Drake could end up being better than last season.....could be. I think talent might be better this season, but can't overlook the fact that Drake had 6 guys on the team last season that had been playing/practicing together for 4 years (Timmer, Rivers, Arogundade, Woodward, Schlatter, Kuentsling). That's a lot of chemistry. A lot this year will depend on how quickly a lot of parts can come together.
We know what we're getting with McGlynn. Hopefully, Thomas will come back stronger and with a good idea of how (and when) to utilize his speed. Norton and the Murphys should be solid. Ellingson is a bigger version of Graham Woodward.....will provide some help, but don't expect stardom. Penn looks good, hope they can get him eligible for this season. Everybody else on the roster is a complete mystery to me at this point. If 2-3 of the "mystery" guys can contribute this season, I think a middle of the pack finish is possible. I don't think any of us thought that was possible after the mess PeeWee left us with.

You also need to believe ya negative corkchuck'n bassmaster chucklehead! Based soley on paper and highlight video ... I really think the Bulldogs are gonna have a hail of team this year. It's all about attitude right now in order to really get the winning chemistry. Clock is ticking with this group. The talent is there but is the will to win strong enough to play the defense necessary to cream da batchz? It's all about commitment, sacrifice, and kill'n a moficky, kapeesh? We've had plenty of glamour boys and posiers in the past who are proof that actions speak louder than words, results are the true measure of where the rubber meets the road. Where is the group coming from? What is thier mental foundation as a team? DawgTired needs to be added to the staff immediately!

Do we know why Gray and Robbins are not playing in the Cap City league? I feel a whole lot better about the team with Gray on the roster than not.

Gray is on the team, that’s been confirmed. Him not being in Cap City is a separate thing, which I don’t know the explanation for. If I’m understanding your concern correctly...
