12-0 run by Aggies. 41-30 in 2nd qtr. D is cold from the field. No answer for Hillsman inside.

Halftime. Down 57-42. No way to stop Carter when she's on. 19pts for her. Aggies shooting 62%. The big problem is home team are 6-10 from distance too...needed that to be about 30%.

Nice run to get within single digits. 72-63 with 13 min to go. Hopefully the pace will start to wear down the home team which has only played 7 players (and starters the most).

Down 76-65 going to the 4th. Hillsman with 20, Carter with 22. They are x factors that there is no answer for. D shooting 57% for the game but 13 turnovers are 13 lost possessions. Aggies with only 5.

Too much Carter (26), Hillsman (22), Williams (18). Second year a big post presence was unable to be stopped. Carter is only a frosh and will terrorize the $EC for the next few years. Great season. Nothing to be ashamed of to take the 4 seed on their home court and play respectable. Almost every one coming back next year. Hopefully a couple of big wins in non-conference and a 3rd conference title will prevent this travesty of having to play a true road game in the 1st round for the 3rd straight year

Well, better performance than last year. That g dang second quarter though, woof. Great season... but now for some complaining (because it is a message board so that's what we do right)! I feel like we lost this year and last year because we were quite a bit shorter than the opposition. Didn't have anyone very tall and athletic last year, didn't have anyone very tall and athletic this year. Hurt us in the non-conference against bigger teams, didn't it? I felt like it hurt today, even though we only lost the rebounding battle by 1 it looks like. And now the complaining bit: Next year we bring in two players, one 6'1" and the other 5'10". I feel like we need at least one 6'5" center who can help negate those Power 5 centers a bit. Gotta solve that.

Only so many athletic 6'4"ft plus with d1 skills basketball players to go around. Great season though, nothing to be ashamed of. They'll be right back in it next year. Go Bulldogs.

Those 6'5" players with skills are very few and far between, and everybody wants them. Drake doesn't have much of a chance. It's kinda like the guy on the men's board a few years ago that suggested Drake needed some 4-star players. Easy to say, damn near impossible to do.

Great effort!!! Thanks for another outstanding season!!! Young team will hopefully bring them back to dance for years to come. Bring on another difficult non-conference schedule and get some wins to get a better seed.
Thank you ladies!!!!

There is a lot less parity in women's b-ball then in men's. The #25 ranked men's team probably has at least a 15-20% chance of beating the number 1 team. The #25 women's team would have a hard time staying within 30-35 points of the #1 team.

It was a very good season, and this team has a lot to be proud of. Nothing to hang their heads about today. My favorite thing about this team is that absolutely everyone contributes. Sara Rhine is so, so, so much fun to watch. And don't even get me started on how much I love Maddy Dean.
But...the only answer for a 6'5" girl is your own 6'4" or 6'5" girl. Never easy to come by, and now even harder to find than it used to be. (A lot of them are opting for volleyball - shorter season, easier on the body.) In the broadcast, the announcers mentioned that Jennie "usually recruits players who don't even have offers from any other schools, because we have a formula that works and we'll stick with it."
First, I'm not sure that's something we want to brag about publicly. Second, I'd argue that "the formula" only works for Valley competition. You're not going to get a top recruit if you're not trying.

Awesome post forever. I haven’t watch much of their games, but can’t help be proud of them as persons and of the results. 42-0 vs your competitors.

I would love to see another Tammi Blackstone come in! :)
Lewis had 23 to end last year Gustafson had 27 earlier this year Hillsman had 22 to end this season
Once a coincidence. Twice a trend. Three times a problem.
I don't know if a traditional "5" would be interested in playing this style. However, winning is a huge recruiting tool and given this team leads the country in assists, maybe it can be played up in the recruiting process that the ball goes inside with frequency. D needs a little luck too that such a player is in a one-state radius which seems to be the prime recruiting territory.

Here's a novel idea how about the lower seed gets a the home game for the women's tournament. The conversations about a true 5 and post play are ridiculous as I would much rather watch the Drake style of play any day over T A&M and a ball carrying point guard and a post who can't run the floor.

Hey guys, I know I don’t post much, but I follow the conversation quite frequently. Anyway, did anyone else notice Becca Jonas only played a total of 13 minutes? Do you think it was the type of play or (god forbid) she got injured during the game.

Do you think it was the type of play or (god forbid) she got injured during the game. No injury, just type of play/coach's decision. Our players typically don't play a lot of minutes anyway so I wouldn't read too much into that. I just got back to Des Moines from the game. Great effort by all of our players. I don't think we played bad they were just better. I also didn't think in person the home court for A&M was as good for them/bad for us as I thought it would be. Once they got on a run their fans were into it but Drake's fans did a great job too. There were just more of their fans obviously. One thing I notice is the NCAA does a good job of trying to make it as neutral as possible-no intro videos, announcer was very neutral, NCAA games during the timeouts. If you didn't know the game was in College Station, you would have thought A&M just sent more fans. In my mind, we accomplished this season's goals when we qualified for the tournament. I'm sure everyone will take some time to rest up but the preparing for 2018-19 will be underway shortly!

Drake will be better next year. The transfer student becomes eligible and she will add height and is a strong on the boards. We will bring in 2 new players, one of which is a big scorer. I hope she can play the point as we are weak at that position. Jenni has 3 commitments from the Junior class already, one of which won the 3 point contest in Illinois. She plans to play a difficult non-conference schedule tougher than this year. A tournament in Vancouver around Thanksgiving. For Drake to get into the bigger holiday tournaments the entry fee is about $30,000. .
