Well, here goes. Some of the following I have posted previously. Some of the following, others have posted the same thoughts previously. Some of the following, I am posting for the first time.
NOBODY ASKED ME BUT...................
1) Were we lucky in 07-08? After all, the team's two biggest stars were walk ons. Did recruiting and coaching really have anything to do with it?
2) These European players coming in better really be good. If they don't pan out, what does that say about Giac's philosophy? I know for a fact he did not offer two all-state players who were honor roll/AP students who received 10-15 mid major offers each, a couple of power conference offers each, four or five Ivy offers each. Our people were "evaluating" these players for two years, while everyone else was offering. There was nothing to evaluate. They're amazing players. One was a 6'4" two guard, who could also play the point, and the other is a 6'7" three or four, who is a beast underneath, and has been impossible to stop for three years. There was nothing to evaluate!! They should have been offered. We actually did talk to one, and he was anticipating an offer.
3) Jacqueline Smith is the most beautiful woman to ever appear on television...and the classiest. Stana Katic is a close second.
4) Sight unseen, I'm saying this now, without any idea of how good they are or are not.....Abrahamson and Woodward are going to have to carry this team next year.
5) After a game at the beginning of the season, I mentioned what speed does for a team and how it affects the game, giving a few examples that took place in the game. I was poo-pooed by the excuse makers, i.e., still young, still inexperienced. As the season waned on, I was glad to see quite a few others finally see the light and noting how slow we really are.
6) The three pointer ruined college and high school basketball. One other rule in sports that should be eliminated is off-sides in hockey. That would make a great, fast game even greater and faster.
7) Drill all you want in Shivers, but pull the base line bleachers down and scrimmage in Knapp. We need as much home court advantage as possible.
8) I got a kick out of everyone being excited that Giac. was starting to look at Iowa players, and how he is now out again checking out tournament games. I've got news for you. Unless Mrs. Korver starts popping out babies, again, the answer is not in Iowa.
9) "Don't Be Cruel," by Elvis, is the greatest song in rock ' roll history. Simple but eloquent. Acoustic guitar, bass fiddle, drum and a barely audible piano, with the great Jordanairres backing up. Plus, no one could sing that difficult melody like Elvis. Simple but eloquent.
10) On Jan. 26th, Dawg Tired posted that Enevold may not even start next year. Even with his end of season improved stats, I can't disagree. I was thinking the same of Timmer, until he was switched to the two. But, in my opinion, it still may be a 50-50 proposition on his starting by mid season.
11) Giac said after a disasterous game ending situation, that there was no chance to work on a game ending winning or tying play, because they had to work on other things. WHAT???!!!! You've got to be kidding me!! It's bad enough not to have one, but to admit it??? Can you imagine a baseball manager saying they could not practice a game winning or tying sacrifice bunt because our fielding is so bad that we didn't have time? How about a football coach saying we couldn't work on a two minute game winning/tying drill, because our tackling (sp) was so bad?
Totally absurd and embarrassing!!
12) What happened to Danielak is another embarrassment the way he was treated. This situation was as close to Phelps as it could be. I know there are kids/students involved, but it should have been addressed. The Des Moines and Drake media and press dropped the ball here. Where are you Times Delphic sports reporters? I thought reporters/journalists are supposed to delve into things like this. One thing, though, the way Danielak handled himself was exemplary. What a fine young man.
13) It is a big mistake for players, their families and other loved ones to read the "Drake Nation" blog.
14) It is a big mistake for coaches and the administration NOT to read the "Drake Nation" blog.
15) Phong Duong
16) Many on here say they won't be concerned unless next year is the same bad result. They say they see Giac's "plan." I have a question. What exactly is that plan? Is it to recruit good players, recruit his type of player, etc? I have another question. Isn't that every coaches plan? Please tell me his plan. I am already concerned. Why? Because for two seasons we have seen the same thing, which is no progress team wise, from the beginning of the season to the end. Perhaps there has been some individual player progress, but for only a couple. Marine has been harping about the end of game play when trying to come from behind, or in a close game. It doesn't change!! No progress for two seasons from beginning of the season to the end. I don't care whose players you have, yours or those you inherited. That should be a sign for concern.
17) Bulldogs Forever and Veeny...what did I mean by keeping in mind that I was about to see a women's game? I meant just that. You say that their skills are as good or better than a man's? You can't be saying that with a straight face. Listen, I know everything is relative, but it's just not there. I don't mean to belittle their skills and fundamentals, but it's just not comparable. That's like saying since women's tennis has longer volleys, that they are more skilled than the men. it's just ridiculous. Ball handling, jumping, running etc.
As good as or better? Goodness, be serious. I venture to say that if you took 5 former high school team players on campus, even none over six feet, and had them play the women's team (on any campus, for that matter), the men would run and press them off the court. Once again, I am not putting down the women's game, but just making a point about skills and fundamentals all being relative.
Have a good day.

And who were some of the best offers? Who did they end up picking? All important info to help me decide if I should get into a tizzy about this.

Unfortunately, there is an element of truth on at least one of them (if I'm thinking of the same student-athlete that 67 is). His brothers are alumni so there was already an inherent advantage too.

Personally I have no interest in comparing recruits who have never worn a Drake jersey to those who we didn't recruit who also haven't proven themselves at D1 yet. It's all a game of hit and miss. We can add it to Giac's list of atrocities in a few years if this year's class doesn't pan out.

Back away from this, Veeny....
Boston College, Bucknell, DePaul, Dartmouth, Iowa, Penn St., Iowa St., Princeton, St. Louis, Yale, Northwestern, Brown, Rice, Loyola, Temple, Toledo, UIC, Wright St., Binghamton, Harvard, Lehigh, Detroit, Penn., Bradley, La Salle, Yale, Boston U., Bowling Green.
Interest, but no offers...Boise State, Creighton, SIU Edwardsville, Xavier. Michigan State said of one of them that he was right on the brink.
No names or breakdown right now, Tennis. Sorry, but thanks for asking. By the schools listed, you can see, like I said, scholar athletes. "Evaluated" for 2-3 years, while everyone else seemed to have no problem with it.
My post was meant to indicate that the European players were recruited playing against and with talent of unknown factors, yet there was no problem offering. Here are two all-state talents playing against high caliber American competition, and they are not even offered, while other big name mid major schools (and BCS schools) have no problem with it. Is Gonzaga the model he thinks that he can attain? Well, let's hope so.

Veeny,
Do you owe your soul to the company store, or what? You can guilt others from critiquing (sp), or questioning things, but your game doesn't work on me. I didn't go on five mile forced marches ,or wake up at two in the morning to pull guard duty, etc., so guys like you can make your cute little comments and think that you're putting one over on someone. Trying to silence people or shame them for making opinions known, just doesn't cut it. If you don't like what you are reading, you can rebut it in a civil manner, but your constant backhanded comments to everyone that you disagree with (not only me, but you've done it with others) are a real turn off. Try something new next time.

Phelps wore brown shoes with a black suit. Always notice it now. Shoes are the foundation of a man.
Seems like we are more likely to agree on shoes than to change your opinion and agree on anything else is my point.

The original point I was trying to make was this:
There are 350 D1 teams. Assuming there are 3 new spots per team a year, thats 1050 recruits. Giac didn't offer over 1,000 of them.
Can take it a step further, let's say there are 5 All staters per state. That's 250 players of roughly your quality available. Giac probably didn't offer 245 of them.
Is he taking a risk on Euro's? Yup. Is anyone recruit a risk? Yup. Maybe a smaller one, but even Dom was wanted by a few schools you mentioned. We can play this recruit comparison game all day though. Until they put on the jersey and play a year or two, we don't know. You're framing it as if the mistake has already been made.
But you're right Dog67, I don't want to be disrespectful, so I'll leave DN for awhile and let everyone start building that escalator back to the abyss.

Lolol has there ever been a bigger homer than Veeny? If I hadn't met him I'd swear it was Mrs. Giac. I do see potential here unlike with phelps, I do think next year is critical. We will really start to see if Giac's gambits pay off. I think they could, I'm cautiously optimistic.

Personally, I think this line of second guessing a coach is silly and unproductive. 67 you can go ahead and do it, but it seems pretty petty to me.
Moving forward.....

I'm guessing 67, due to his affinity for north suburban Chicago basketball, is talking about a guard from Stevenson and post from Lake Forest. I'll let you do the research Tennis.
I, having gone to school and played in that same conference, have to say I would have loved these guys at Drake. Very disappointing to hear that staff wasn't interested.
McGlynn committed pretty early, however, and the guard is much in the same mold as two freshman already on the team.
I have to agree strongly on the Danielak situation. Even if you are going to force him out, don't play him at all so he can request for a redshirt. This year was now completely wasted for him in terms of eligibility. The kid is a class act through and through though.

Danielak couldn't have redshirted so save a year unless he plans on going D2.

Isn't it entirely possible that these guys weren't offered because the staff knew there was little or no interest on the part of the players?

Drakey (3/12/2015) Isn't it entirely possible that these guys weren't offered because the staff knew there was little or no interest on the part of the players?Potentially. They also committed to Rice & Dartmouth, so it wasn't like Loyola or Bradley valued them much higher.
