Some chains suck. Some independent/local places suck, too. It's not quite as simple as "all chains suck", "local = good". If everything else is equal, I'll support a local place over a chain, but if a chain offers something I like that isn't available in a locally owned place, well, they'll get my business. I won't buy much at Trader Joe's, but they have some good stuff there, and it's not way expensive like Whole Foods.
Anyway, Trader Joe's in WDM opens on November 5.
