[/quote]With respect Hoosier, I think you may be getting a little carried away in saying that this team has more talent than any Bulldog team ever. The 68-69 team had three guys who later played in the NBA. I'm also not ready to say that this is the best recruiting class ever. However, on paper, the last two years are in my opinion the best consecutive recruting classes ever. Let's see how they actually play.

1. I don't give a d.... about the NBA. I mean Talent as a team.
2. If you want to compare the 68-69 roster that included:
Ron Gwin, Al Sakys, Bob Mast, Dave Wicklund, Dale Teeter, Jim Nordrum, Rick
Wanamaker, Larry Sharp, Gary Odom, and Jim O'Dea
To the Talent of the 13 we have on this team?????
You go right ahead. That is your right on this board.
I wasn't saying 3 or 4 guys, I meant as a team. Sorry for any misinterpretation.

Comparisons of this kind are meaningless, we have a great bunch of players and we now get to see how well our staff can mold them into an effective team. Can they come close to achieving past glory? I think they definately have the potential as a group, we need to build a cohesive team mentality and maximize their combined potential. I would be more than willing to say we have as much or more talent than another state team which accomplished a lot this year. Only time will tell now.
Blown out by the worst team in the valley in back to back games equals Homer is phriken Dun!

| Yes, I'm also excited about this positive addition to the team, but I agree with DT, let's not get carried away. It will take a year or 2 to see how these recruits will all develop. Recruits always look super when they are signed, but it's how they play on the court in 1-2 years that we can look back and judge how good this recruiting class truly is.
It is nice to have a class of this caliber - good job Coach P and staff. |

Wow, Hoosier!! What's up? I wasn't trying to put a burr in your saddle and I would never get personal with you or anyone else, so I'm really surprised by your tone.
I'm as excited as everyone else about this recruiting class. Like I said, kudos to Coach Phelps for an amazing job. |

Definitely agree with your call for a little perspective (but not DT's ), however, Woods and Alexander should have an immediate impact, plus SVD should show big improvement. I think the key to next year is how much Ben Simons has improved. Rice sounds awesome, but he will be a freshman. Simons has to be the guy who can hit the big threes so teams can't pack the post and focus only on Wedel on the perimeter.

Lot's of competition at every position. Drake has not had that for a long time. There are a lot of very interesting possible combinations out there. A lot of guys who are capable of stepping up on any given night.

| Based on the highlight films I saw, Woods can run and jump and get some putbacks. He also looks to be capable of handling a pass. Hopefully he really wants to rebound. with this final addition to next years class it will be interesting to see who emerges. It would not appear that anybody is a guaranteed starter. I'm asuming Wedel will start, but beyond that I don't have a clue. My hope is that Simons has put on some muscle in the offseason and can win a starting job, because I think he has amazing potential. Whatever happens, it will bw great to have subs who are as good as the starters.
Don't pass up the shot. |

| | I am really excited about the potential rotations next year. Not only will we be deep at the guard position which is typical in the Valley, but we will be able to cycle talent through the post. With the addition of Woods and Clarke, our inside presence adds some bulk and athleticism. This is going to be a deep team with a lot of talent. Hopefully the experience that the young guys gained last year will be built upon this year. The few upperclassmen are going to have to step up to fill the leadership roles that Young and Temp have left open. |

I hope we do something similar to what UNI did with their rotation last year. It was an effective way to keep everyone happy with playing time. Plus the fact that it worked against the #1 team in the country. |

| Now that everyone is talking about all the competition and depth at every postion, all the possible rotations, keeping everyone happy with playing time, etc., etc., etc., on more than one board (recruiting, basketball, etc.), who is going to be the first one to complain about and comment about not understanding why Coach Phelps substitutes the way he does, just like this past season? With the amount of available talent, the potential for even more frequent substitution is a distinct possibility. Will the hot shooting Simons come out for Hawley, etc?

Excellent post dog67! I think this will be the major challenge for the coaching staff. There appear to be 13 players who will be wanting/expecting? playing time. There is no way a college coach should try to play his entire team in every game. An injury or two could resolve the issue, also can anyone say redshirt?

I love it when I can analyze and pick apart, after the fact, what Coach Phelps did wrong.

I don't think I've ever met a real sports fan who wasn't an armchair coach to some degree. Listening to a bunch of armchair coaches discuss every detail of a game beats the hell out of apathy.
