| Lurking Dog, it appears as if you and I are just talking to each other. Guys from Lehigh are giving alot of details on any given saturday website. Here is a small sample. They are posting even more info on the Lehigh web site.
Lehigh's defense beat the offense, 39-37 in an entertaining game at Goodman under ideal conditions. Estimated 1,200 in attendance. Defense, as expected, ahead of the offense, plus having seen the offense for four weeks, one could see they knew their reads. Two leading QBs were 'live' as the coaches wanted to see them in 'pressure' situations. Both Clark and Lum had their moments, especially Clark in the opening drive with a gorgeous 20 yard TD pass in the corner of the endzone. Several dropped balls by WRs was bothersome, though some were on tough passes (several slightly behind) but if your hand get on the ball it must be caught.
Secondary came up with 4 picks (3 against rising soph Colvin), and looked very strong in coverage. Colvin was a surprise player, coming back from broken leg late last fall. However he did wear a red jersey.
Punting game looked excellent as Smith seemed to pick up where he left off last year. Some very nice boomers with hang time. Peery probably leads in the PK competition, though that will remain open in August, along with a new frosh PK coming in.
Campbell, Barket, Kablan, ran hard, though no huge gains on the ground. Walker did not suit up. This guy has been snake bitten with injuries his whole career.
Several DL also didn't play, expecially Winett, so the DL depth looks very good as some rising sophs got a lot of time and one, Chagani, could be pushing for a starting job.
Captains were named: Al Pierce (he of Lafayette game fame) on defense and Will Rackley (All-American tackle ) on offense.
Only real concern, from my view, is depth in the OL. The starting line looked pretty good; however, the second string got manhandled by the 1st D, so those guys need to step it up.
Also learned that the new OC is giving the QBs 'packages' of plays to deal with on each snap with the QB deciding on 'the' play at the line. Still some of the bothersome "looking at the sideline hand gestures" for checkoffs from time to time, but that fad may be fading. Clark commented that Cecchini is more "detailed oriented" than the previous OC.
Lots of work to do, but no question there is optimism on Old South Mountain. A lot of energy.
Season ticket renewals go out next week and applications to the general public June 3. Gotta buy the whole package if you want a ticket to the Lafayette game this year.
Lehigh also has a report and video interviews with some players and the HC at www.lehighsports.com

| follow up on the QBs...
Some of the Lehigh faithful seem clueless as to who is on the team, much less who will start next week.

J.B. Clark Will Start Against Drake
In the online poll on Lehigh Football Nation, readers were absolutely right. Breaking news from Keith Groller at the Morning Call:
Sophomore QB J.B. Clark, a 6-4, 215-pound Jupiter, Fla., product, has been named the starting quarterback by Lehigh University football coach Andy Coen.
Absolutely wrong. 24-hours later, the word is that Clark was running third among the Lehigh quarterbacks. So he wasn't actually named the starter. In fact, he quit the team. Starter/Quitter...easy to confuse the two, I guess.

So will their quarterback be Chris Lum...or someone else? I say it doesn't matter, if he's on his back.

| More news from out East.
LEHIGH QB LEAVES PROGRAM - JB CLARK
“As a coaching staff, we felt it was important to share with the quarterbacks their status after the scrimmage so they know where they stood heading into the final week,” Coen explained. “JB was third as he was outperformed by the other two quarterbacks on Friday. Upon being told the news, JB has unfortunately decided that he would like to leave Lehigh and find an institution where he can be a starting quarterback.”
Coen then offered his thoughts on Clark’s departure, “While I am obviously disappointed in his decision, I will support JB because I think highly of him as a person. He’s a tremendous competitor and he wants to be out there playing on Saturday afternoons. I appreciate the hard work and dedication he has given to our football program and wish him nothing but success moving forward
I think the Gator should have a field day. |

Lehigh fans have heard of Dain Taylor, but they don't yet know the Gator.

| | I think they'll know his name and number after the game. Offensive linemen should feel like they have been hit by a train. |

| I know that everyone is telling each other that you're rabid and barking, etc.
In case anyone needs to can the bs and get fired up for Lehigh, here's one fan's thoughts as seen on a National fan site.
"HC over Howard by a bunch
Fordham same as HC
Lehigh by a bunch over Drake, did the MHawks have to go all the way to Nebraska to find a patsy. Fordham & Colgate found them locally"
Lehigh was 4 and 7 last year. They received 8 votes in a poll for National rankin---Drake lost the PFL crown last year in the last 30 seconds and received 0---We can earn some respect for the PFL with a nice win over Lehigh. Let's make some MountainHawk stew.

| ...yes, I think a geographically challenged easterner subconsciously put our Midwestern location together with the name of our coach. The result was the mistaken belief that Lehigh is traveling to Omaha. No fella, that's someone else.

| LurkingDog (8/25/2010) The following is from a blog called Lehigh Football Nation.
On what is quickly becoming my favorite comedy blog, there's finally acknowledgment of the Drake defensive end who didn't have stats last year. Maybe our Lehigh friend will get the name right by game day.
Lum will take those "lumps" in his first few offensive series - probably from Bulldog senior DE Dain Taylor and senior DE Aaron Asbell.

| Here are predictions from Lehigh. They obviously all predict a victory, but most have the game close.
Lehigh Predictions
My prediction: Drake 17, Lehigh 13. Start the season on a winning note. Man I cannot wait for college football to start!!! |

| Lehigh receiver Jake Drwal, from Omaha, will reportedly have 60-70 family and friends coming in on two chartered buses.

Saw the above post about Lehigh's QB. Somewhat ironic that you would call Lehigh fans clueless as you post an announcement that J.B. Clark is starting against Drake in 2008's game. 2008/2010... easy to confuse the two, I guess.
